Overview
We are looking for motivated engineers with strong analytical capability and an interest in early-stage engineering development to join our expanding WRMP29 Option Engineering team. In this role, you will work directly with UK colleagues to deliver highquality engineering support across multipleUKwater companies.
The work focusses on concept development of water resource options, GIS analysis, generation of cost and carbon metrics, and preparation of technicaloptionappraisal documents. You will be part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment that integrates engineering, environmental assessment, carbonappraisaland strategic planning.

Your role
Concept Development
- Work collaboratively with UK teams and clients to develop coherent raw-to-tap water resourceoptionconcepts.
- Apply creative engineering thinking to refine options, suggest mitigations, and adapt concepts to regional characteristics.
- Ensure consistent application of assumptions acrossoptionportfolios and provide/receive reasoned technical challenge.
- Engage with multi-disciplinary colleagues tomaintaincoherence between engineering, environmental and cost/carbon elements.
GIS & Spatial Analysis
- Support spatial representation of options using GIS platforms (e.g., QGIS).
Metric Generation (Cost, Carbon & Decision-Making)
- Use established client tools andAtkinsRéalisworkflows to prepare cost estimates (CAPEX, OPEX, wholelife cost, NPV).
- Undertake carbon assessments (operational and embodied), including monetisation of carbon.
- Generate WRMP-specific decision metricsrequiredforoptioncomparison andselection.
Reporting
- Support preparation of technical proformasand reportingfor each project stage, incorporating engineering assumptions and datasets.
About you
- You should have a degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, water resources, or a related discipline. Experience in the UK water sector or WRMP processes isadvantageousbut not essential.
- Appreciation of raw/potable water transfer systems, pumping, pipelines,storageand treatment at a conceptual level.
- Experience of engineering appraisal, early-stage feasibilityworkor water sector projects.
- Ability to evaluate engineering viability,risksand assumptions in conceptstage options.
- Basicworking knowledge of QGIS, Microsoft Excel and SharePoint comfortable working with large datasets.
- A clear and confident communicator capable of contributing to technical discussions internally within the project team, and externally with client organisations.
- Positive, proactive mindset with the ability to work in an agile, fastpaced environment.
- Ability to adapt to changing scopes and manage multiple tasks in parallel.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to take initiativeappropriate tograde.
- Interest in collaborating closely with major UK water companies and influencing strategic decisions.

- A master's degree in project management or equivalent is a plus.
- Chartered status / Professional certifications (e.g., MAPM, Prince 2 practitioner, PMP, MRICS) is an added advantage.
