Job Description

Blueleaf Energy is a leading renewable energy platform of a world-class financial institution, a portfolio company owned by Macquarie's Green Investment Group (GIG), operating on a standalone basis to develop and build onshore Renewable Energy projects in Asia.

Our work today includes greenfield development of renewable energy projects and construction of the same with the aim of building high-performance operating assets. Our team is driven by our mission of accelerating the energy transition, centring on our core values. By joining us, you can expect an exciting and fulfilling career path supported by people passionate about renewable technology, innovation and making the world a healthier and more sustainable place.

About the role:

We are looking for someone who is passionate about translating ideas into numbers that enable better decision-making. You should enjoy analysing commercial value in the context of complex, uncertain and evolving market conditions. If you want to contribute to the sustainability of our planet by building a data-driven crystal ball for the energy transition, this is your chance.

Key Responsibilities

This role is suited for candidates with a strong quantitative inclination who are excited to work on optimization, modelling and market-driven decision-making in energy systems.

  • Develop and maintain energy system and market models that capture the interaction between renewable generation, energy storage, demand, grid constraints and electricity markets.
  • Build and enhance dispatch and operational models for renewable and storage assets, including the integration of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with other generation technologies.
  • Apply technical understanding of BESS performance characteristics, including degradation, efficiency and operating constraints, within the broader energy system and market models.
  • Formulate and solve optimization problems using techniques such as linear and mixed-integer programming, with exposure to advanced topics including stochastic optimization, sequential decision-making and simulation.
  • Develop and apply forecasting and data-driven methods (e.g. prices, loads, renewable generation) to improve modelling accuracy, scenario analysis and decision-making under uncertainty with a focus on asset- and portfolio-level revenue optimisation.
  • Validate, stress-test and interpret model outputs to ensure results are technically robust, commercially meaningful and aligned with real-world system behaviour.
  • Support plant operations by providing analytical inputs, operational insights and scenario analysis to improve real-time and short-term operational decisions for renewable and storage assets on a day-day basis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, investment and operation) to develop and refine operating and revenue optimisation strategies for renewable and storage assets.
  • Translate complex modelling and analytical outputs into clear insights and recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Track and analyse developments across electricity markets in Asia, including day-ahead, real-time, balancing and ancillary service markets to continuously improve modelling assumptions and optimisation approaches.
  • While the role is based in India (Bengaluru/Gurugram), the work will involve analysis of electricity markets across Asia where Blueleaf Energy operates.

Requirements:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree (Preferred) in Power Systems / Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics or a closely related quantitative field.
  • 35 years of relevant experience in energy modelling, optimisation or quantitative analysis within the power sector.

Technical Skills

  • Proven expertise in energy system and energy storage optimisation, using quantitative and computational methods.
  • Hands-on experience in the modelling, development and deployment of economic dispatch models for batteries integrated with renewable generation.
  • Strong experience in formulating and solving optimisation problems, including:
  • Linear and Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (LP / MILP)
  • Stochastic optimisation and simulation
  • Strong proficiency in Python for model development, data analysis and automation with the ability to translate technical and business requirements into clean, efficient and maintainable code. Proficiency in other relevant tools is also welcome.
  • Experience working with large time-series datasets (prices, load, weather, generation, dispatch).
  • Exposure to machine learning or data-driven methods applied to forecasting or energy system operations is a plus.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Ability to communicate complex analytical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong documentation skills covering models, assumptions and analytical results.
  • Collaborative team player with a structured and proactive working style.

Blueleaf Energy is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to fostering a workplace free from discrimination based on gender identity, age, socio-economic background, ethnicity, cultural identity, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, and religious beliefs. We believe that diversity and inclusion are essential to our success, and we encourage all qualified individuals to apply.
