Role summary

The Employer Commercial Benefits Tester is responsible for validating the accuracy and endtoend functionality of employer commercial benefit setups and system changes (e.g., medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and other group products). The role ensures that benefit configurations, pricing, and associated business rules work as intended across quoting, enrollment, billing, and claims, minimizing defects and member or client impact.

Key responsibilities

  • Execute test plans and test cases for employer commercial benefit products across multiple systems (benefit configuration, enrollment, billing, claims).
  • Validate that benefit rules (copays, deductibles, coinsurance, outofpocket maximums, limits, accumulators, networks, tiers) match product, filing, and client specifications.
  • Perform functional, integration, and regression testing for new implementations, renewals, product updates, and other benefit changes.
  • Create, maintain, and execute manual test cases and test data; document test results and evidence clearly.
  • Log, track, and retest defects; work closely with configuration analysts, developers, and business SMEs to clarify issues and verify fixes.
  • Run endtoend test scenarios simulating realworld member and employer activity (enrollment events, billing cycles, and sample claims).
  • Support user acceptance testing by preparing scenarios, data, and documentation for business testers and stakeholders.
  • Follow established QA processes, standards, and test documentation practices, contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Escalate risks, data issues, and environment problems that may impact test execution or quality.
  • Participate in release readiness and postimplementation validation as needed.

Required qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in business, information systems, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 24 years of experience in software or system testing, QA, or benefit configuration support, preferably in health insurance or group benefits.
  • Working knowledge of employer commercial benefits (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, or voluntary benefits) and basic plan design concepts.
  • Experience creating and executing test cases, documenting defects, and using defect tracking tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, ALM).
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to follow complex rules and documentation.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to work with crossfunctional teams.

Preferred qualifications

  • Handson experience with benefit configuration or policy administration systems in a health plan, PBM, or group benefits environment.
  • Basic SQL or data query skills to validate backend data and test results.
  • Experience with test automation tools or frameworks (for regression or rules testing).
  • Familiarity with SDLC and standard QA methodologies in Agile or hybrid environments.
