Job Description
Embedded Systems Engineer
Reports to: Embedded Linux/Open WRT Engineer (Lead)
Location: India
Employment type: Full-time
About the Role
Owns the earliest, most hardware-adjacent stage of bring-up — bootloader, board bring-up, and hardware validation — so the rest of the squad has a working board to build on.
Key Responsibilities
- Port, configure, and maintain U-Boot for the device's board revisions
- Lead board bring-up for new hardware revisions: verify power sequencing, clocking, memory, and peripheral bus initialization
- Build and run hardware validation test plans for each board revision, in partnership with the QA/Test Engineer
- Debug boot failures and hardware faults using JTAG, serial console, oscilloscope, and logic analyzer
- Maintain the hardware-in-the-loop test lab (dev boards, RF test gear) alongside QA
- Flag hardware design issues back to the external hardware/EE function or contract manufacturer early
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of embedded systems experience, with hands-on U-Boot or comparable bootloader experience
- Direct board bring-up experience — has taken hardware from first power-on to a stable, bootable state
- Comfortable with lab instruments (JTAG, oscilloscope, logic analyzer, multimeter)
- Working knowledge of C and low-level hardware interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, GPIO)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience bringing up boards for telecom or IoT connectivity devices
- Familiarity with OpenWRT or embedded Linux boot flows
- Exposure to hardware design review or design-for-manufacturing feedback
Tech Stack
U-Boot, C, JTAG/serial/oscilloscope tooling, OpenWRT boot flow
What Success Looks Like (First Two Quarters)
Current board revision passes its full hardware validation test plan; boot time and bring-up documentation finalized; hardware-in-the-loop lab operationa
