Job Description

Associate Software Expert - Electromechanical Embedded Software

to join our team at KTEC, Chennai, India, within the Electromechanical Embedded Software Team, part of the KONE Machinery and Drive Organization in KONE R&D.

In this role, you will work closely with senior software and motor control experts to design, implement, and validate high‑quality embedded software solutions that form the core of KONE's next‑generation elevator drive systems.

What is our challenge for you

As an Associate Software Expert, you will contribute hands‑on to embedded software and control‑related development, bridging theoretical concepts with robust, production‑grade implementations.

You will be coached by senior experts, while gradually taking ownership of software components, features, or subsystems. This role offers a strong growth path toward advanced expert or technical specialist roles within KONE R&D.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to the design, implementation, and testing of embedded software for electromechanical drive and control systems
  • Supporting development of control software features related to motion, speed, torque, or system behavior under guidance from senior experts
  • Implementing software in C/C++ for real‑time embedded environments, following KONE quality and safety standards
  • Participating in software integration, verification, and validation activities in laboratory and field environments
  • Assisting in control parameter tuning, debugging, and performance analysis
  • Collaborating closely with electrical, mechanical, and system engineers in a cross‑functional setup
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of development practices, tools, and documentation
  • Supporting issue analysis related to hardware-software interaction and field feedback

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have:

  • 7+ years of experience in embedded software development, preferably within industrial, automotive, drives, or embedded control systems
  • Strong fundamentals in embedded systems programming (C/C++)
  • Basic understanding of control systems, feedback loops, or motor/control‑related concepts
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers or DSP‑based systems and real‑time constraints
  • Hands‑on experience with debugging, testing, and lab validation
  • Exposure to software version control systems (Git/GitLab)
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a global and multicultural team
  • Curiosity, learning mindset, and motivation to grow into a technical expert role

Welcome additions:

  • Familiarity with motor control concepts (PMSM / Induction Motors, FOC, basic control theory)
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink for modeling or analysis
  • Exposure to real‑time operating systems (RTOS)
  • Basic understanding of power electronics or inverter systems
  • Experience with lab instruments such as oscilloscopes or logic analyzers

What can we offer you

You will be part of a highly skilled R&D organization, working on mission‑critical software that impacts the safety, ride comfort, and energy efficiency of KONE elevators worldwide.

This role offers:

  • Strong technical mentorship from senior experts
  • Clear career growth path within KONE's expert ladder
  • Opportunities to work with state‑of‑the‑art labs and real products
  • Exposure to global R&D collaboration and modern development practices
