Summary:
We are looking for an Embedded Linux Test Automation Engineer to support validation and automation activities for embedded Linux-based products. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Linux environments, shell scripting, and automated testing frameworks, with a strong focus on Hardware-in-Loop (HIL) testing and CI/CD pipeline integration.
This role is centered around developing and maintaining automation scripts that simulate test environments, execute validation scenarios, and integrate seamlessly with GitLab CI/CD pipelines. The candidate will work closely with development and validation teams to ensure software quality, reliability, and continuous testing across hardware platforms. This is not a Linux kernel development or board bring-up role. The primary focus is on test automation, system validation, and hardware-integrated testing.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain automation frameworks for embedded Linux platforms.
- Create and enhance shell scripts to automate test execution and environment setup.
- Develop test automation solutions that integrate with GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
- Build automated workflows to simulate and mimic target hardware environments for continuous testing.
- Execute and maintain Hardware-in-Loop (HIL) testing activities.
- Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot Linux-based test systems and environments.
- Analyze test results, identify failures, and support root-cause investigations.
- Collaborate with software development teams to improve test coverage and automation efficiency.
- Develop reusable automation tools and utilities to improve validation productivity.
- Support regression, integration, and system-level testing activities.
- Document automation frameworks, test procedures, and troubleshooting guidelines.
Requirements:
- 3&ndash6 years of experience in Linux-based test automation or validation roles.
- Strong scripting mindset with hands-on Shell/Bash development experience.
- Experience working in embedded systems testing environments.
- Comfortable working directly with hardware test setups.
- Ability to independently troubleshoot automation and test execution issues.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
Required Skills:
Linux & Linux Administration
- Strong hands-on experience working in Linux environments.
- Good understanding of Linux system administration concepts.
- Experience with Linux commands, processes, services, file systems, and networking.
- Ability to troubleshoot Linux system issues independently.
Shell Scripting (Mandatory)
- Strong expertise in Shell/Bash scripting.
- Experience creating automation scripts for test execution, environment setup, log collection, validation workflows, and continuous integration pipelines.
- Ability to write modular, maintainable, and scalable automation scripts.
Test Automation
- Experience developing automated test frameworks and validation tools.
- Hands-on experience with system-level and integration testing.
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies and automation best practices.
- Experience creating automated test suites and regression testing frameworks.
Hardware-in-Loop (HIL) Testing
- Experience working with Hardware-in-Loop (HIL) testing environments.
- Ability to execute and automate hardware-integrated validation scenarios.
- Experience troubleshooting hardware and software interaction issues.
- Understanding of embedded systems testing methodologies.
CI/CD & GitLab
- Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD.
- Knowledge of automated build, deployment, and test execution workflows.
- Experience managing automated validation as part of release processes.
Yocto Project
- Basic to intermediate understanding of Yocto Project environments.
- Ability to work with Yocto-generated Linux images and testing environments.
- Familiarity with embedded Linux build processes.
Preferred Skills:
- Python scripting and automation.
- Cybersecurity testing or cybersecurity compliance exposure.
- Experience with embedded Linux-based products.
- Familiarity with Docker or containerized test environments.
- Knowledge of software quality and release management processes.
- Experience with logging, monitoring, and debugging tools.
