This Position reports to:

Team Lead Product Engineer


Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB's success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Global Research & Development (R&D) team.

This role is contributing to the Motion business based at Bangalore- Peenya, 5 Days from office India: No Remote Working

You will be mainly accountable for:

Working as an independent and reliable contributor in Hardware projects with limited supervision

Skilled at analyzing an electronics circuit, tracing the entire electrical fault path in PCBAs

Generate list of potential electrical hypothesis cases for a given electrical fault

Perseverance to test out each hypothesis systematically

Develop test plan to execute and test hypothesis with hands on testing

Individual ownership on all test cases

Independent analysis- visit to ABB tie up of external labs, X-Ray, Decapsulation, SEM analysis to understand component failure

Arrive at root cause of problem.

Document the findings in clear flow, concise language, present findings to leadership.

Suggest product improvement via design change - Engineering change notification,

Suggest design calculations

Component selection

PCBA change

Own process with ECN

Qualify alternate component suppliers, Validate design change and associated testing ( Localization )

Support in- house Production Failure issues with repair analysis and root cause

Develop visually aided detailed work instructions for prevention of issue recurrence.

Educate and present findings

ERP tool like SAP familiarity, support on

Product Bill of Material(BoM) creation

Work with Production team for resolving BoM issues

Preferable Skills

  • Variable Frequency Drives Background

  • Hands on electrical circuit probing, using various measuring devices

  • Ability to apply first principles thinking to arrive at a problem

  • Field site experience and exposure.

  • Technical competence, calm and composure to first listen, align and then present technical concepts with demanding customers with management / client meetings

  • Work with peers, agile mindset to prioritize and de-prioritize tasks based on urgency.

  • Excellent written, oral communication skills.

  • Work with diverse teams, networking skills, with client partners, vendors, supplier communities.

  • Can-do attitude and willing to go extra mile to get things done

  • Know Use of Oscilloscopes, Power Meters, Various electrical analyzers

  • Experience in New Product testing, visiting Compliance and Regulatory Labs.

  • Knowledge on EMI, EMC, Regulatory testing.

  • Operate Environmental Chambers, Test stations, 3-phase AC system, 415Vac, 50 Hz.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and fix electrical issues with little to no supervision

Qualifications for the role

  • Hardware, Power Electronics, Testing and Validation, Product Reliability, circuit Analysis and Simulation.

  • Full time B Tech, M Tech (E&E), with 5 to 8 Years of Experience

  • Deep level of Electronics circuit understanding.

  • Component level electrical understanding, apply first principles from datasheet.

  • Firm grasp of Electrical Engineering operating principles, concepts, physics governing it

  • Ability to visualize circuit scenarios with data rather assumptions, simulate and deduce.

  • Structured thinking. Concise documenting. Data driven analysis

  • Experience in validating hypothesis of unfamiliar electrical phenomena like field failure from theory, application of first principles, verify with simulation, physical product validation with know golden unit and then connect the dots.

  • Hands-on experience in Designing electronic circuits, Component selection, testing and validation. Using test meters, oscilloscopes, power analyzers

  • Variable frequency Drives theory, operation, understanding, probing skills will be preferred.

  • Domain Preferred Ex- VFD company candidate, Ex- EV, Ex- Power/ Analog Electronics Circuit Design Specialist.
