About Designing Alley
Designing Alley is a Delhi-based innovation startup focused on advanced product development in automation, AI, and hardware-integrated systems. We specialise in turning engineering concepts into precision-built prototypes. We are looking for a hands-on Electronics Engineer to join our core team someone who enjoys designing, building, and iterating on real hardware in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Role Summary
This is a firmware-first role with a strong hardware awareness component. You will primarily write and own firmware for embedded microcontrollers, while being comfortable enough with hardware to read schematics, understand component choices, debug circuits, and collaborate meaningfully with PCB designers. You don't need to be a full PCB designer but you should understand what's on the board and why.
Job Description
Primary Focus
Write and maintain firmware in C/C++ for ARM-based microcontrollers (STM32, ESP32, or similar).
Develop peripheral drivers for communication interfaces UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, and Ethernet.
Implement real-time control loops for motion systems, dispensing mechanisms, and sensor feedback.
Integrate and calibrate sensors and actuators at the firmware level.
Write clean, modular, and well-documented embedded code suitable for iterative hardware development.
Debug firmware issues using logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and serial debug tools.
Read and interpret schematics and PCB layouts to understand the hardware you are programming.
Understand common electronic components microcontrollers, power regulators, motor drivers, sensors, and passive components and how they interact.
Assist with board bring-up: verifying power rails, clocks, and basic peripheral functionality.
Perform hands-on prototyping soldering, rework, and basic bench testing.
Communicate component-level requirements and constraints clearly with hardware designers.
Collaborate with mechanical and software teams to integrate electronics into complete systems.
Required Skills
We value strong fundamentals and a builder's mindset. You don't need to have done everything but the core firmware skills are non-negotiable.
Must Have
Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field (B.Tech / M.Tech / PhD).
Hands-on experience writing firmware in C/C++ for microcontrollers (any platform STM32, ESP32,AVR, PIC, etc.).
Solid understanding of embedded communication protocols: UART, SPI, I2C at minimum.
Ability to read and understand schematics and basic PCB layouts.
Familiarity with common electronic components what they do, how they're used, and how they can fail.
Comfortable using an oscilloscope, logic analyzer, or multimeter to debug a real board.
Basic soldering skills enough to assemble or rework a prototype board.
Curiosity, ownership, and willingness to learn things outside your current skillset.
Good to Have (Not Mandatory)
Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) or bare-metal real-time control.
Exposure to stepper motor or servo control firmware (TMC, DRV series, or similar drivers).
Familiarity with PCB design tools (KiCad, Altium, or Eagle) even at a basic level.
Experience with sensor integration temperature, pressure, flow, or position sensors.
Exposure to fluid or dispensing system control logic.
Familiarity with 3D printing (FDM/SLA) for rapid prototyping.
Benefits
Direct ownership of hardware subsystems with room to experiment and innovate.
Access to in-house rapid prototyping facilities, 3D printers, and fabrication tools.
A collaborative team of engineers working across disciplines and geographies.
Fast decision-making, steep learning curve, and real-world product impact.
Competitive salary and a clear path to grow into a senior or leadership role.
Work on meaningful health-tech and intelligent hardware at the frontier of innovation.
How to Apply
We welcome applications from candidates who may not tick every box but bring strong fundamentals and genuine enthusiasm. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Pre-screening is conducted by our recruitment team not AI tools.
