The Electrical Wiring Designer plays a key role in developing and optimizing wiring harnesses and electrical systems for vehicles. This position focuses on wiring harness design, wiring optimization, and detailed drawing creation, while also supporting benchmarking and packaging studies for electrical and electronic modules. The role collaborates closely with Electrical & Electronics Systems Engineering teams to deliver robust, engineered solutions that align with vehicle architecture and system requirements.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop vehicle electrical wiring harnesses, ensuring functionality, reliability, and compliance with design standards.
- Perform wiring optimization studies to improve efficiency, reduce complexity, and enhance serviceability of electrical systems.
- Create clear, accurate, and detailed drawings and documentation for wiring harness designs.
- Conduct benchmarking studies on electrical and electronic modules and systems to compare performance, packaging, and design approaches.
- Execute packaging studies for electrical and electronic modules, defining their locations within the vehicle based on space, performance, and safety considerations.
- Define and validate the placement of electrical and electronic systems and components in the vehicle in alignment with overall vehicle architecture.
- Independently design attachment schemes and develop brackets, including plastic and sheet metal brackets, to secure electrical components and wiring harnesses.
- Collaborate closely with the Electrical & Electronics Systems Engineering (EESE) team to understand requirements and deliver engineered solutions that meet program objectives.
- Use Teamcenter Engineering and Vismockup tools to manage product data, review designs, and validate packaging and integration of electrical systems.
- Communicate effectively with program stakeholders and suppliers to clarify requirements, address issues, and support design decisions.
- Work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to drive projects to completion.
- Demonstrate high levels of commitment and motivation, proactively identifying and resolving design and integration challenges.
Essential Skills
- Strong experience in electrical wiring harness design for vehicles.
- Proficiency in wiring optimization studies and creation of detailed wiring drawings.
- Hands-on experience with benchmarking and packaging studies for electrical and electronic modules and systems.
- Ability to define locations of electrical and electronic modules and systems within the vehicle.
- Capability to independently design attachment schemes and brackets, including plastic and sheet metal brackets.
- Solid knowledge of vehicle architecture, aggregate groups, sub-groups, systems, and sub-systems.
- Practical experience using CATIA for design and modeling of electrical components and brackets.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with program stakeholders and suppliers.
- Proficiency with Teamcenter Engineering for product data management and collaboration.
- Experience using Vismockup or similar tools for digital mockup and packaging validation.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- High level of commitment, motivation, and self-starting attitude.

- Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for wiring harness design and integration.
- Ability to interpret complex technical requirements and translate them into practical design solutions.

- Comfort working with engineering teams and suppliers across different disciplines.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple design tasks and documentation simultaneously.
Work Environment
The role operates in a professional engineering environment focused on vehicle electrical and electronic system development. Work typically involves using design and product data management tools such as CATIA, Teamcenter Engineering, and Vismockup, collaborating closely with Electrical & Electronics Systems Engineering teams and other stakeholders. The position requires frequent interaction with program stakeholders and suppliers, as well as participation in design reviews and packaging assessments. Work is primarily office-based with regular use of digital mockups and engineering software, and attire is generally standard professional or business-casual suitable for an engineering office setting.
