Job Description

Responsibilities

We are looking for a Jr Electrical Design Engineer to join our Engineering Design team (OD01) in Surat. You will prepare accurate, code-compliant electrical drawings and calculations for projects spanning ground-mounted solar PV, rooftop solar PV, BESS, hybrid energy systems, HT/LT substations, and chemical and process plant electrical installations. 

 

You will work under the guidance of the Manager — Engineering Design and collaborate with project engineers across disciplines to deliver Issued for Construction (IFC) quality drawings on time. This is a hands-on technical role with a clear growth path from Junior to Lead Engineer within ETPL. 

SERVICE SCOPE FOR THIS ROLE 

 

  • S001 — Ground Mounted Solar PV 
  • S002 — Rooftop Solar PV 
  • S003 — Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) 
  • S004 — Hybrid Solar + BESS + DG Systems 
  • S005 — HT/LT Substation and Switchyard 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

Electrical Design and Drawing Production 

  • Prepare and revise Single Line Diagrams (SLD), schematic diagrams, protection drawings, earthing layout drawings, and equipment layout drawings using AutoCAD Electrical 
  • Develop cable schedules, cable sizing calculations, load schedules, and equipment data sheets per IS, IEC, and CEA standards 
  • Produce Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and material schedules aligned to approved design with vendor-neutral specifications 
  • Prepare earthing and lightning protection designs per IS 3043 and IEC 62305 

 

Solar PV and BESS Design 

  • Run PVsyst simulations for ground-mounted and rooftop solar PV; prepare yield analysis reports with P50/P90 estimates 
  • Prepare BESS SLDs, protection philosophy notes, and DC-AC integration drawings per IEC 62619 
  • Support hybrid system design (Solar + BESS + DG) with design basis notes and interconnection drawings 

 

Substation and Process Plant Electrical Design 

  • Prepare HT/LT substation layout drawings, busbar sizing calculations, and protection relay setting notes 
  • Develop electrical area classification drawings and hazardous area dossiers for chemical and process plant projects 

 

Quality, Standards, and Compliance 

  • Ensure all drawings comply with ETPL drawing standards and applicable IS / IEC / CEA codes 
  • Participate in internal drawing review cycles; respond to all review comments within 24 hours 
  • Maintain design registers, drawing trackers, and revision history logs in project systems 

 

Coordination and Communication 

  • Coordinate with civil, structural, and instrumentation teams for cross-discipline drawing and data exchange 
  • Liaise with procurement on material queries and vendor drawing review 
  • Attend project coordination meetings and provide accurate design progress updates 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

 

Educational Qualification 

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering — Minimum qualification 
  • B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering — Preferred 
  • PGDC in Power Systems or Renewable Energy — Advantageous 

 

Work Experience 

  • 1 to 3 years of post-qualification experience in electrical design engineering 
  • Hands-on experience in at least one of the following sectors: 
  • Utility-scale or commercial solar PV 
  • Renewable energy EPC 
  • BESS integration 
  • HT/LT substation design 
  • Process or chemical plant electrical design 
  • Demonstrated experience producing SLDs, cable schedules, and layout drawings using AutoCAD Electrical or AutoCAD 2D 
  • Experience in renewable energy or utility sector is mandatory — candidates from unrelated sectors will not be considered 

 

Certifications (Desirable) 

  • Certification in PV system design — NABCEP Associate, PSDA, or equivalent 
  • AutoCAD Certified User or equivalent Autodesk certification 
  • Working knowledge of ETAP or DIgSILENT PowerFactory is a distinct advantage 

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED 

 

Core Technical Knowledge 

  • Single-phase and three-phase power systems, protection principles, earthing design, cable sizing 
  • Solar PV system architecture — DC string design, inverter sizing, AC collection, MMS/SCADA 
  • BESS topology — AC-coupled and DC-coupled systems, cell-level protection, DC-AC interface 
  • HT/LT substation design — breaker ratings, bus-bar sizing, CT/PT selection, relay coordination 
  • Applicable codes: IS 1554, IS 3043, IS 5613, IEC 60439, IEC 60502, IEC 62305, IEC 62619, CEA Regulations 2010 
  • Ability to read vendor GA drawings, equipment datasheets, and tender technical specifications

  • AutoCAD Electrical / AutoCAD 2D — Proficient (SLDs, schematics, layouts, cable schedules — all services) 
  • PVsyst — Working Knowledge (solar PV simulation, yield analysis, P50/P90 reports) 
  • MS Excel / Google Sheets — Proficient (cable sizing, load schedule, equipment schedule, BOQ) 
  • MS Word / MS PowerPoint — Basic (design basis notes, reports, presentations) 
  • Zoho Projects / MS Teams — Basic (task tracking, coordination, document management) 

 

Desirable 

  • ETAP / DIgSILENT PowerFactory — Basic Level (load flow, short circuit, relay coordination) 
  • Helioscope / Aurora Solar — Working Knowledge (rooftop solar layout and optimisation) 
  • AutoCAD 3D / Plant 3D — Awareness (process plant layout and cable routing) 

DELIVERABLE EXPECTATIONS 

 

All deliverables must meet the following baseline quality standards before submission for internal review: 

 

  • Drawn to ETPL standard title block, drawing number, revision block, and layer naming convention 
  • Referenced to the applicable IS / IEC / CEA code cited in the project design basis 
  • Cross-checked against the project BOQ and equipment schedule before issue 
  • Uploaded to the designated project folder with the drawing register updated on the day of issue

WORKING CONDITIONS 

 

  • Primary Location: Head Office, Surat, Gujarat — Full-time, in-office 
  • Site Travel: Up to 15–20% of working days for site visits, commissioning support, or client coordination 
  • Working Hours: Standard 9-hour office day per Attendance and Work Hours Policy (POL-006) 
  • PPE and Safety: Mandatory PPE compliance during all site visits per Field Safety and PPE Policy (POL-010) 
  • Probation Period: 6 months per Probation and Confirmation Policy (POL-004) 

 

COMPENSATION 

 

Compensation is as per Band B2 — OD01 (Entry–Junior) and is competitive with the renewable energy engineering consulting market in Gujarat. Details are shared with shortlisted candidates. Refer to ET-D03-POL-008 for the Compensation and Benefits Policy.
