Key Responsibilities:
Electrical System Design and Modeling:
- Design and model electrical systems (e.g., power, lighting, fire alarms, communications, and low-voltage systems) using BIM software such as Revit or AutoCAD MEP.
- Develop detailed electrical system drawings, diagrams, and layouts to meet design and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with engineers and architects to ensure the electrical systems are integrated with other building systems in the BIM model.
- Conduct clash detection and coordination with other disciplines (mechanical, plumbing, structural) to resolve design conflicts and ensure smooth integration.
Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with electrical engineers and other design teams to understand project requirements and assist in translating those requirements into accurate BIM models.
- Assist in the creation of electrical system layouts, specifications, and technical drawings for use in project documentation.
- Coordinate with architects and structural engineers to ensure that electrical systems are designed and modeled to meet space constraints and building requirements.
- Participate in BIM coordination meetings and design reviews to ensure that all systems are aligned and meet project objectives.
Standards and Quality Control:
- Ensure that all electrical designs and models meet industry standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., NEC, IEC, local building codes).
- Ensure that designs are energy-efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable.
- Review and update electrical designs to reflect changes or modifications in the project scope or client requirements.
- Conduct quality checks and ensure that the BIM models are accurate, up-to-date, and meet project specifications.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Generate 2D and 3D electrical drawings, schedules, and reports as required by the project.
- Maintain and update project documentation, ensuring all relevant data is accurately reflected in the BIM model.
- Assist with the creation of Bill of Materials (BOM) and material take-offs to support procurement and construction processes.
Project Support and Implementation:
- Provide support during the construction phase, addressing any issues or changes that arise related to electrical design.
- Assist in creating construction documentation, including electrical wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and panel schedules.
- Support project teams by providing BIM data and models for construction sequencing, scheduling, and visualization.
Software Utilization and Continuous Improvement:
- Use BIM software (Revit, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks, etc.) to develop accurate and detailed models of electrical systems.
- Keep up to date with the latest BIM technologies, electrical design trends, and industry best practices.
- Propose improvements to BIM workflows and processes to enhance efficiency and reduce errors.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Design, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in electrical design and modeling, with hands-on experience using BIM software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks).
Skills:
- Proficiency in BIM software (Revit, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks, etc.) and electrical design tools.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical systems design (power, lighting, low-voltage systems, etc.) and associated codes and regulations (e.g., NEC, IEC).
- Strong understanding of building systems and how electrical systems integrate with mechanical, plumbing, and structural systems.
- Experience in clash detection and resolving conflicts in BIM models.
- Ability to create and read technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.
