Electric Drivetrain Engineer
Role Overview
The drivetrain engineer will be responsible for characterizing and tuning the motors and motor controllers for use in our Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), apart from coordinating with vendors to identify the right drivetrain components for different use cases.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform validation of BLDC, PMSM, Servo and Induction motors on dyno and vehicle level.
- Conduct key tests such as no-load, load, efficiency mapping, thermal tests and torque-speed curves.
- Configure, tune and validate motor controllers (FOC, current limits, throttle response, regen).
- Diagnose issues related to overheating, noise, vibration and controller faults.
- Analyse test data, prepare validation reports and document controller parameters.
- Troubleshoot hall sensor faults, encoder issues, phase imbalance and wiring problems.
- Support production and field teams in resolving motor and controller-related failures.
- Coordinate with inhouse and supplier design teams and provide feedback on motor performance and improvements.
Qualifications
- 2+ years experience with strong hands-on skills in electronic prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with motor testing and validation and in-vehicle integration
- Basic understanding of motor design concepts (poles, slots, winding, magnet types).
- Experience in using multimeter, clamp meter, LCR meters oscilloscopes, temperature
- Familiarity with loggers and CAN tools.
- Knowledge of motor controls: PWM, commutation, FOC, protection functions.
- Good analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- Ability to understand mechanical drawings to co-ordinate with vendors regarding mechanical constraints
- Knowledge of PID tuning of motor controllers.
