About the Role
The Sinker/ Spark EDM Operator (Senior) is responsible for setting up and operating CNC EDM machines to manufacture high-precision components for tool room and manufacturing operations. The role involves interpreting engineering drawings, selecting and preparing electrodes, accurately setting up jobs and tooling, and producing components within tight tolerances. The operator must possess strong knowledge of Spark EDM machining processes, precision measurement techniques, and quality standards while working in a rotating shift environment.
Qualifications
- ITI / Diploma in Tool & Die Making/Diploma in Tool and Die Engineering/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering/Diploma in Precision machinist
- 3–5 years of hands-on Spark EDM machining experience in tool room or precision manufacturing environments
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of sinker or spark EDM operations
- Knowledge on Makino/Mitsubishi EDM machines
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and 2D CAD files
- Knowledge of electrode selection, preparation, and EDM machining processes
- Hands-on experience with precision measuring instruments and inspection methods
- Familiarity with tight tolerance machining and tool room practices
Responsibilities
Reading and Understanding Drawings
- Interpret 2D CAD files, technical drawings, and blueprints to understand dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, and surface finish requirements
- Understand operation sequences, electrode requirements, and machining parameters before setup
Dimension Extraction from CAD Drawings
- Extract critical dimensions and features from engineering drawings and CAD files
- Use dimensional data to determine proper machine setup, tooling, and machining parameters
Process Understanding and Electrode Selection
- Understand operation-wise EDM machining processes for each job
- Select suitable electrodes based on part geometry, material type, tolerance, and machining requirements
Electrode Deburring and Preparation
- Deburr and prepare electrodes carefully without damaging profiles
- Ensure proper fitting and alignment of electrodes before machining operations
Precision Job and Electrode Setup
- Set up jobs and electrodes with high accuracy
- Verify machine alignment, workpiece positioning, and tooling setup for optimal machining performance
Sine Table Setup for Angular Machining
- Set and align sine tables for angle jobs and profile machining
- Ensure stable and accurate setup for angular EDM operations
CNC EDM Machine Programming and Operation
- Independently program and operate CNC EDM and sinker EDM machines
- Input and optimize machining parameters to meet production and quality requirements
- Monitor machine performance and troubleshoot process deviations during operation
Precision Measurement and Quality Control
- Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, height gauges, and CMM for inspection
- Ensure component tolerances
- Continuously monitor machining quality and dimensional accuracy
