Job Description
WSP India is currently seeking a Asst Bridge Engineer to join our Bridges Department, located at our Bengaluru office. This position will be responsible for the delivery of multidiscipline bridge design projects, including highway and pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, drainage structures, and special projects. Duties include evaluation, analysis, design, cost estimating, tender preparation, shop drawing review, and contract/construction administration.
The successful candidate will work within the Canadian CRC Bridge team and will be a dynamic, self-motivated individual who will assist the project managers and leads in project work, focused on delivery to the client and technical excellence. The role requires active involvement on several tasks and becoming involved in design at an early stage. The ability to design and prepare the self-check copies of deliverables based on Canada Engineering standards for each stage of a project is a pre-requisite and training and guidance will be provided, where necessary.
Responsibilities
Core Fonctions
- Analysis, preliminary, and detailed design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other civil structures.
- Bridge Load Ratings, assessments, and rehabilitation design.
- Prepare technical analysis and design, including cost estimating, quantity take-offs, etc.
- Quantities and construction cost estimates.
- Proven hands-on experience in all aspects of analysis and design of bridge related projects/tools.
- Assist in review of shop drawings.
- Preparation of reports in the English language.
- Liaise with all discipline team members.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Post graduate degree in Civil Engineering with 2 to 4 years postgraduate experience with a reputed structural engineering consultancy firm.
- Superior technical understanding, design abilities, and current on bridge technologies.
- Strong abilities to work with various software packages (i.e. SAP2000, CSI Bridge, MIDAS Civil, Microsoft Office);
- Basic knowledge and understanding of AutoCAD and MicroStation
- Solid understanding of QA/QC and Environmental Health and Safety practices/requirements.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and organization skills.
- Experience with technical writing, minutes preparation, etc.
- Ability to work under pressure and with minimum supervision.
- Ability to assist in multiple projects and effectively prioritize.
- Ability to estimate design level of effort, meet milestone schedule deliverables etc.
- A team player with a willingness to help others and collaborate with team members.
- Cultural awareness
- Experienced working on an overseas assignments or projects following international design standards is plus
Desirable Skills
- Ability to acquire Professional Engineer Licence with any of the Canadian Provinces would be considered an asset.
- Solid understanding of other design requirements (e.g. drainage / hydraulic design, environmental design / mitigation measures, engineering surveys, geotechnical investigations, etc.);
- Solid understanding of Transportation standards and design practices for the provinces of BC, Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario are an asset.
- Familiarity with BC, Alberta, Manitoba, or Ontario regulatory environment and experience with approval processes is an asset.
- French language proficiency is an asset.
BGV:
