Job Summary

Position Overview:

Provides guidance on due diligence and other legal compliance issues such as economic sanctions and anti-boycott laws. Conducts due diligence searches and prepares advice based on enquiries using Navex and other software related to restricted parties list (RPL) screening . Plans, organizes, and conducts comprehensive due diligence files for review and evaluation. Presents clear, concise, and factual reports that enable fair and relevant decisions to be made by the business. Recommends proactive measures that will reduce the risk of inappropriate contractual undertakings by the relevant GBU with clients, associates, and representative consultants. Contributes to and participates in the development of the Legal Department's activities .

    • Works under very general direction from the relevant GBU Manager of Legal and Corporate Compliance Counsel.

    • Exercises supervision as assigned.
  • Contacts
    • Maintains contact with Bechtel employees and managers to conduct interviews, respond to questions and provide guidance on due diligence issues.
    • Occasional contact with Procurement, Subcontracts, Compliance, and Internal Audit departments for subject matter advice and referrals.
    • Maintains contact with external organizations for networking.
    • Regular contact with legal and compliance personnel for policy interpretation and advice.
Major Responsibilities

  • Conducts due diligence analysis of proposed clients and other relevant third-parties using anti-bribery investigation applications such as Navex, and RPL screening software,
  • Conducts research related to ethics and compliance rules, regulations, policies and practices.
  • Conducts compliance and ethics reviews and risk assessments.
  • Coordinates and tracks reviews and updates of policies, procedures, and instructions.
  • Issues guidance and clarification of due diligence requirements Legal Instructions to employees and managers.
  • Identifies risk areas and communicates same to Marketing and Business Development Managers, Commercial Managers as well as Executive
  • Management using formal and informal assessments and gap analysis.
  • Works to mitigate ethics and compliance risks and by engaging with appropriate departments so that policies and procedures are followed.

Education And Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) under an on-campus program at an accredited University and a minimum of 5 - 7 years of relevant experience or 9 -11 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree
  • Working knowledge of Bechtel's internal processes and procedures relating to project execution and contract and subcontract management.
  • Previous work experience on international engineering, procurement, and construction projects.
  • Oversees the team input of management reports.
  • Assists with budget activities for department including budget preparation and monthly monitoring.
  • Assists with staff development, training planning, and development.
  • Coordinates training and employee awareness activities with projects and other departments.
  • Serves as deputy to manager to respond to inquiries related to due diligence and compliance aspects in the absence of managers or as delegated.
  • Working knowledge of project specific compliance plans and the administration of same at the project level.

Required Knowledge And Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of project specific compliance plans and the administration of same at the project level.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of ethics and compliance and work experience of a progressively responsible nature.
  • Understanding of complex ethics and compliance issues and corporate requirements.
  • Ability to organize and analyze data and information gathered to support investigative findings.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Broad knowledge of Bechtel's policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Bechtel's internal processes and procedures relating to project execution and contract and subcontract management.
  • Previous work experience on international engineering, procurement, and construction projects.
  • The above is normally acquired through a recognized degree from an accredited college or university, sufficient number of specialized courses, or equivalent demonstrated experience in an ethics and compliance related discipline or function
