Company Description Chowgule Lavgan Shiprepair Pvt Ltd operates an ultra-modern shipyard on the west coast of India, approximately 70 nautical miles from Bombay High. The company is part of the Chowgule group, a 100-year-old enterprise with a strong reputation in maritime and industrial services. The Lavgan facility specializes in commercial ship and defense ship repairs for the Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy, as well as rig repairs and EPC construction projects. The shipyard offers dry docking, refit, conversion, fabrication, and load-out services, providing a comprehensive environment for marine professionals to develop their careers. Team members work with advanced infrastructure and diverse vessel types in a safety-focused, project-driven setting.
Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Dock Master role based at the shipyard in Ratnagiri. The Dock Master will oversee day-to-day dry docking operations, including planning and executing docking and undocking of vessels, coordinating with ship captains, marine pilots, and internal teams to ensure safe and efficient movement of all craft. Responsibilities include supervising dock crews, allocating resources, monitoring work schedules, and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and operational procedures. The role involves inspecting dock readiness, reviewing docking plans, verifying vessel positioning, and managing lines, blocks, and equipment to prevent damage to ships and infrastructure. The Dock Master will also liaise with customers on operational aspects, provide progress updates, and support problem-solving for technical and logistical issues related to dry dock, refit, and repair activities.
Qualifications

  • Strong supervisory skills, with experience leading dock, yard, or marine operations teams in a structured, safety-critical environment.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to coordinate with vessel crews, contractors, technical staff, and management.
  • Customer service orientation, with the ability to manage client expectations, handle operational queries, and maintain professional relationships.
  • Hands-on experience with boats or larger vessels, including understanding of docking/undocking procedures, mooring, and vessel handling considerations.
  • Background in the marine industry, such as ship repair, shipbuilding, port operations, offshore support, or related maritime services.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety regulations, risk assessment, and best practices for dry dock and shipyard operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret docking plans, technical drawings, and vessel specifications.
  • Relevant marine or engineering qualification (e.g., marine engineering, naval architecture, nautical science, or equivalent practical experience).
  • Proficiency in basic computer tools for reporting, documentation, and communication.
  • Flexibility to work in shifts and extended hours when required by operational schedules.
