Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & Guidance:
- Lead and guide the rotary engineering discipline, providing expert technical direction and support to the design team.
- Develop and implement design standards, best practices, and guidelines for the design of rotary equipment, ensuring that all work is in line with industry standards and project specifications.
- Provide hands-on technical expertise for complex rotary equipment design challenges, offering solutions to overcome technical hurdles.
Design & Development of Rotary Equipment Systems:
- Oversee the design of key rotary machinery systems including pumps, compressors, turbines, blowers, and motors, ensuring they meet project requirements for performance, safety, and reliability.
- Lead design reviews and ensure that all technical documentation (drawings, specifications, calculations) is accurate, complete, and compliant with client and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct advanced design calculations and simulations for equipment sizing, stress analysis, fluid dynamics, and system integration.
- Drive innovative design approaches to improve the efficiency, performance, and cost-effectiveness of rotary systems.
Project Leadership & Execution:
- Manage the overall technical execution of rotary equipment design projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Coordinate the efforts of the design team and collaborate with other disciplines (e.g., structural, electrical, civil) to integrate rotary equipment systems into larger projects.
- Monitor the progress of design activities, identify and mitigate risks, and implement corrective actions to keep projects on track.
- Participate in the preparation of project proposals, cost estimates, and schedules for rotary equipment systems.
Client & Stakeholder Management:
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients regarding rotary equipment design, ensuring their needs and expectations are met throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide clear and concise technical presentations to clients, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities.
- Lead technical discussions and decision-making with clients, ensuring alignment with project goals, specifications, and timelines.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Ensure that all rotary equipment designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., ASME, API, ISO, OSHA).
- Lead design reviews, audits, and inspections to verify that designs are technically sound, feasible, and meet safety requirements.
- Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure that all designs meet or exceed client expectations and internal standards.
- Oversee testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of rotary systems to ensure they meet performance criteria.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
- Stay up-to-date with the latest technological advancements in rotary machinery and design methodologies.
- Drive the adoption of new technologies and design tools that enhance the design process, improve system performance, and reduce costs.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging the team to identify and implement process enhancements that increase efficiency and product quality.
Mentoring & Team Development:
- Provide mentorship and professional development for junior engineers and designers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
- Identify knowledge gaps within the team and provide training or resources to support their growth and development.
- Encourage a proactive approach to problem-solving, technical innovation, and knowledge sharing within the team.
Procurement & Supplier Interaction:
- Support the procurement team in selecting suppliers and vendors for rotary equipment components, ensuring that materials and equipment meet technical specifications and quality standards.
- Assist in evaluating supplier proposals, conducting technical reviews, and negotiating terms for procurement.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (Master's degree is preferred).
- Experience: 12+ years of experience in rotary equipment design and engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership or discipline lead role.
- Industry Expertise: Extensive experience with rotary equipment (e.g., pumps, compressors, turbines, motors) in industries such as oil & gas, power generation, petrochemicals, and manufacturing.
- Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is preferred.
Skills & Competencies:
- Technical Expertise in Rotary Equipment: In-depth knowledge of design principles, performance requirements, and troubleshooting of rotary machinery systems.
- Mechanical Design Software Proficiency: Expertise in engineering design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar tools.
- Advanced Design Calculations & Simulations: Strong experience in conducting mechanical design calculations, stress analysis, and fluid dynamics simulations for rotary equipment.
- Leadership & Team Management: Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of engineers and designers, setting goals and fostering an innovative and collaborative environment.
- Project Management Skills: Strong project management skills, including experience managing budgets, schedules, and resources for engineering projects.
- Client & Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience managing client relationships and presenting technical solutions to stakeholders.
- Quality Control & Compliance: Expertise in ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., API, ASME, ISO) and safety regulations.
- Problem-Solving & Decision-Making: Strong analytical skills to address complex engineering challenges and implement effective solutions.
Desirable Skills & Certifications:
- Advanced Project Management Certification (PMP) is a plus.
- Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing Certification for process optimization.
- Experience with advanced simulation tools or digital twins for rotary systems.
