We are seeking a highly accomplished and hands-on Director of Cloud Solution Architecture to lead the design and delivery of cloud-native applications and solutions. This senior role is ideal for a technical leader with deep experience architecting, building, and modernizing applications on cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP), complemented by a solid understanding of cloud infrastructure. The successful candidate will drive innovation, scalability, and operational excellence, while remaining actively engaged in hands-on solutioning and implementation.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Application Architecture
- Architect, design, and deliver scalable, resilient, and secure cloud-native applications using modern architectural patterns (microservices, serverless, event-driven, API-first, etc.).
- Lead application modernization initiatives, including migration, re-platforming, and refactoring of legacy systems to cloud-native architectures.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to define application blueprints, reusable components, and best practices for cloud development.
- Ensure application architectures meet business requirements for performance, security, reliability, and cost optimization.
- Champion DevOps, CI/CD, and automation practices for application delivery and lifecycle management.
Cloud Infrastructure Architecture
- Design and implement cloud infrastructure solutions supporting application workloads, including networking, security, identity, and compliance.
- Govern Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using Terraform (and optionally Terragrunt), ensuring modular, reusable, and auditable infrastructure deployments.
- Support cloud governance, cost optimization, and operational monitoring for application environments.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate and pilot emerging cloud services, tools, and architectural paradigms (e.g., AI/ML platforms, edge computing, serverless).
- Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and drive continuous improvement through feedback and retrospectives.
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a trusted advisor to business and technology leaders on cloud application strategy and solution architecture.
- Mentor and develop architects and engineers, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- 18+ years of IT experience, with at least 7 years architecting and building cloud-native applications.
- Deep hands-on expertise in at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
- Proven track record of leading large-scale application architecture and modernization programs on cloud.
- Mastery of Terraform for Infrastructure as Code, including modular design and multi-environment orchestration.
- Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure fundamentals (networking, security, identity, compliance).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps tooling, and automation frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with observability and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, or cloud-native solutions).
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional, Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert).
- Experience in regulated industries (with strong compliance and security requirements).
- Familiarity with FinOps practices and cloud cost management tools.
