ABOUT ROLE
Location: Bangalore, Karnataka (On-site)
- The Director of Engineering will lead the design, development, and scaling of a cloud-native Human Capital Management (HCM) / Human Intelligence Platform, driving product innovation, engineering excellence, and delivery at scale. This role blends technology leadership, product thinking, and execution rigor in a high-growth SaaS environment. This is a highly hands-on role (70%), requiring deep involvement in architecture, problem-solving, and critical engineering decisions, not just oversight. The role demands a strong technology leader who thrives in start and growth stage companies and potential to grow to core team member.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Engineering Leadership & Delivery
- Own end-to-end engineering delivery across modules (Core HR, Payroll, PMS, LMS, Workforce, Analytics).
- Build and scale high-performing engineering teams across frontend, backend, mobile, and platform layers.
- Stay deeply hands-on (70%) in system design, code reviews, troubleshooting, and key builds.
- Ensure high availability, performance, and scalability of multi-tenant SaaS architecture.
- Hands-on experience in integrating products and ERP applications like Oracle, SAP, or similar platforms.
2. Architecture & Platform Thinking
- Define, manage and evolve cloud-native, microservices-based architecture.
- Lead core engineering decisions, design reviews, and solutioning for complex enterprise use cases.
- Drive API-first design, integrations, and flexible data architecture.
3. Product & Business Alignment
- Work closely with Product and Founders to translate vision into scalable technology.
- Bring a builder mindset - someone who has seen 0 -1 and 1 -10 journeys in startups or growth-stage companies.
- Balance speed, innovation, and enterprise-grade robustness.
4. AI & Intelligence Layer
- Drive integration of AI/ML into the platform (talent insights, workforce analytics, automation).
- Contribute hands-on to building the Human Intelligence Layer.
5. Quality, DevOps & Reliability
- Establish strong DevOps, CI/CD, and engineering quality practices.
- Ensure uptime, SLAs, and performance benchmarks for enterprise clients.
6. Stakeholder & Customer Engagement
- Engage with enterprise clients for solutioning and escalations when required.
- Partner with implementation teams for seamless delivery.
KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- 12–18+ years in software engineering, with strong hands-on expertise.
- Proven experience in startup or high-growth SaaS environments (scale-up journeys preferred).
- Deep expertise in:
- Cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP)
- Microservices & distributed systems
- Scalable multi-tenant architecture
- Architecture & coding expertise in Java Spring Boot, Angular, microservices, and analytics-driven platforms with ability to dive into details when needed.
- Hands-on experience in developing full-fledged enterprise-grade applications using Java and Angular, with a continuous drive to adopt and implement emerging technologies for modernization and scalability.q
- Exposure to AI/ML or data platforms is a strong plus.
- Strong leadership with a player-coach mindset.
