Pronto Networks builds cellular routers, Wi-Fi 6/7 access points, and edge AI devices that run the networks behind point-of-sale, kiosk, and retail deployments for leading US commerce platforms. We're headquartered in Walnut Creek, California, with engineering teams in Bangalore and Indore — and we're building our next generation of AI-enabled cloud platforms to manage large fleets of connected devices.

We're hiring a Director of Engineering who is first and foremost a builder. You'll be the principal architect of our software platforms, stay hands-on in the code, and lead engineers and engineering managers across Bangalore and Indore by example. You'll report directly to the CEO.

What you'll do

• Own the architecture of our cloud management platform, device and eSIM connectivity services, data pipelines, and web applications
• Write production code for the most critical components — and set the quality bar through your own work and code reviews
• Lead the design and delivery of our new AI-enabled platform: telemetry, observability, anomaly detection, and AI-assisted fleet operations
• Manage and mentor engineering managers and senior engineers in Bangalore and Indore
• Establish engineering standards: design docs, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, security-by-default

Our stack Node.js, Ruby, MongoDB, ClickHouse, Angular, React. (Device firmware is built by a separate team — you won't write firmware, but you must understand how networking devices behave in the field.)

What we're looking for

• 12+ years in software engineering, including 4+ years leading teams with engineering managers reporting to you
• Proven track record as the principal architect of a complex production system — designs you authored, code you wrote
• Expert-level hands-on skills in Node.js and/or Ruby; strong experience with MongoDB and analytics stores like ClickHouse
• Deep networking domain knowledge: TCP/IP, routing, NAT/firewalls, VPNs, Wi-Fi, cellular WAN, device management protocols (TR-069, SNMP, MQTT)
• Experience running distributed teams and communicating crisply with US executive stakeholders
• Available to join immediately — candidates serving a long notice period will not be considered

Strong plus: AI/ML-enabled product experience (on-device inference, LLM agents, MLOps, AI-driven observability); IoT/device-fleet platforms (OTA, zero-touch provisioning, eSIM); familiarity with embedded Linux/OpenWrt.

Location: On-site at our HSR Layout, Bangalore office, with travel to Indore and occasional travel to Walnut Creek, CA. Regular overlap with US Pacific hours expected.
