Director of Engineering - Identity

Reports to: VP, Platform Engineering
Role Summary
We are seeking a talented Director of Engineering - Identity to lead the design, development, and evolution of our Identity & Access Management systems. You will drive architectural decisions for authentication, fraud, authorization, kyc and user identity across our banking platform, ensuring security, scalability, and modern user experiences. This is a technical leadership role requiring deep expertise in IAM, modern authentication protocols, fraud systems, cloud security, and large-scale distributed systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute company's identity vision aligned with product and platform strategy.
- Partner with Product and Engineering to design secure, compliant, and scalable authentication, fraud, kyc and kyb capabilities
- Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and drive best practices in secure identity management
- Lead initiatives for zero-trust architecture, passwordless authentication, and identity innovation.
- Own the strategy for identity, authentication, authorization, fraud, and KYC
- Collaborate with product, security, and engineering teams to deliver seamless, secure user experiences
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards for financial services
- Manage large software development efforts and cross-functional scrum teams
- Collaborate with product managers, product owners and agilists to achieve well defined release plans
- Define software development standards and engineering disciplines
- Evaluate and communicate risks in an appropriate and timely manner to stakeholders
- Foster continuous improvement using tools and engineering metrics

Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering leadership experience with strong expertise in identity management for financial industries.
- Deep knowledge of security and fraud concepts and technologies
- Knowledge of Java programming language.
- Hands-on experience with modern authentication protocols (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, MFA, etc.)
- Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred) and secure application development
- Deep experience designing scalable, distributed systems with high availability and performance
- Deep experience integrating solutions with a goal of frictionless or minimal friction user experiences.
- Proven technical leadership and ability to drive architecture and platform decisions working with architects.
Preferred:
- Deep experience with identity platforms (Auth0, Okta, Keycloak, Ping) and custom IAM solutions
- Experience with transactional (ex. NICE Actimize or Verafin) and behavioral (ex. BioCatch, Callsign) anomaly detection services
- Experience with building monitoring and alerting systems that search for exposed data on the dark web or system vulnerabilities.
- Experience with extensible platforms, including modularization of components, allowing applications to invoke features as needed.
- Experience with KYC or KYB solutions such as Alloy, Socure, or Prove.
- Background in highly regulated fields such as financial services and/or banking.
- Knowledge of zero-trust security models and emerging trends in identity protection
