About The Role

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Data Engineering to lead the development and scaling of our data platform powering next-generation PropTech products. This leader will be responsible for enabling a unified, high-quality view of property, tenant, and market data to support analytics, digital experiences, and AI-driven insights.

You will own the full data lifecycle - from ingestion of diverse real estate data sources to transformation into a Common Data Model and delivery of trusted data for product, analytics, and machine learning use cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Platform Ownership
  • Lead the end-to-end data engineering platform, including:
    • Ingestion of structured and unstructured real estate data (e.g., listings, transactions, IoT/sensor data, geospatial data, third-party datasets)
    • Transformation into a scalable Common Data Model (CDM) for property, tenant, and asset data
    • Data architecture and platform design (batch and real-time)
    • Fulfillment of data for internal products, analytics, and AI use cases
  • Define and execute a data strategy that supports digital property experiences and data-driven decision-making.
  • Architecture & Data Modeling
  • Design robust, scalable architectures for high-volume, multi-source property data.
  • Establish and evolve a property-centric Common Data Model, enabling:
    • Standardization across fragmented data sources
    • Cross-product interoperability
    • Longitudinal views of assets and tenants
  • Incorporate geospatial and time-series data modeling best practices.
  • Data Engineering & Processing
  • Build and oversee pipelines for:
    • Property listings and transaction data
    • Market and pricing data
    • Building operations and IoT data
  • Ensure high data quality, reliability, and observability.
  • Optimize for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Product & AI Enablement
  • Partner with Product, Analytics, and AI/ML teams to deliver data that powers:
    • Property search and recommendation engines
    • Market analytics and valuation models
    • Tenant and landlord insights
    • Predictive maintenance and smart building use cases
  • Enable self-service data access for internal stakeholders.
  • Data Fulfillment & Operations
  • Establish SLAs and scalable processes for fulfilling data requests across the organization.
  • Ensure timely, accurate delivery of data for customer-facing applications and internal tools.
  • Build reusable data services and APIs where appropriate.
  • Leadership & Team Building
  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing data engineering team.
  • Drive a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and innovation.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, and Business leaders.
  • Governance, Security & Compliance
  • Implement governance frameworks for sensitive real estate and customer data.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., tenant data, financial data).
  • Establish standards for data lineage, cataloging, and documentation.
Qualifications

Required

  • 8–12+ years in data engineering, with 3–5+ years in leadership roles.
  • Experience building and scaling cloud-based data platforms.
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Data modeling (especially domain-driven or Common Data Models)
    • ETL/ELT pipelines and orchestration
    • Distributed data processing systems
  • Experience supporting analytics, product, and AI/ML use cases.
  • Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills.
Preferred

  • Experience in PropTech, real estate, or geospatial data domains.
  • Familiarity with:
    • Geospatial data tools (e.g., GIS systems)
    • IoT or smart building data pipelines
    • Real estate datasets (MLS, property records, market feeds)
  • Experience with modern data stack (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, Spark, Kafka, Airflow, dbt). Azure preferred but not required.
Key Competencies

  • Strategic thinker with strong execution capabilities
  • Deep technical expertise with architectural vision
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration
  • Data-driven mindset with product orientation
  • Ability to navigate complex, fragmented data ecosystems

Success Metrics

  • Reliability and scalability of the data platform
  • Speed and quality of data delivery for product and analytics teams
  • Enablement of AI/ML and advanced analytics use cases
  • Team growth, engagement, and performance
