About the Team The BI&A (Business Insights & Analytics) team in Bengaluru is a globally integrated analytics function, working closely with colleagues in Indianapolis and across Lilly's global centers to drive improved patient and business outcomes through strategic, data-driven insights. One of the key sub-functions under BI&A is Medical Affairs Business Insights and Analytics. The Bengaluru-based team is responsible for enabling analytics insights for our Medical Affairs business partners. We are looking for a leader who will own analytics execution and delivery for the team in Bengaluru, ensuring the engagement model successfully supports Medical Affairs in making data-driven, AI-augmented decisions that advance patient outcomes. The Business Insights and Analytics (BI&A) team is a global analytics and insights function focused on driving improved patient and business outcomes through the delivery of strategic and innovative insights grounded in data and analytics The Role The Director, Medical Affairs Analytics is a senior leadership role with a focus on infusing AI and agents into Medical Affairs analytics at Lilly. This means moving the function toward a future where AI helps autonomously surface insights, answer complex business questions, and support Medical Affairs decision-making in real time. They will help architect and lead that shift, building the products, the infrastructure partnerships, the team capabilities, and the stakeholder buy-in needed to make agentic analytics a reality for Medical Affairs at scale. Additionally, the Director will be part of a dynamic team of analytics professionals whose main goal is to help our business partners achieve their goals through data driven, analytical enablement. The position will leverage their deep understanding of various data sources in order to lead execution of critical analyses and to communicate key outputs to decision makers. This analytics leader will be responsible for ensuring business decisions are backed by data driven insights. They will play a leadership role in developing execution plans for the prioritized analytics workstreams, in conjunction with teammates located in the US. They will seamlessly partner and collaborate to ensure the broader team is aligned with key execution priorities and is able to meet (and exceed) our business partners expectations for delivery of high quality analytic results The role sits within the seamlessly integrated Global BI&A Medical Affairs Analytics leadership team and serves as the primary Bengaluru anchor for strategy, prioritization, and delivery. It works in close partnership with the Global BI&A Medical Affairs leader, and collaborates across GMAO, VEO, BU Medical Affairs, Tech@Lilly, and BI&A's Engineering, Platform & Capabilities (EPIC) team. Key Responsibilities 1. Agentification of Medical Affairs Analytics Lead the design, development, and deployment of agentic AI systems tailored to Medical Affairs use cases Translate the agentic AI vision into a concrete, phased roadmap with clear milestones, resource requirements, and success metrics and drive its execution in partnership with other BI&A teams Champion responsible agentic AI development: define guardrails and validation frameworks, that ensure outputs are trustworthy, explainable, and compliant Stay at the frontier of agentic AI development tracking advances in LLM tooling, multi-agent orchestration frameworks, and AI-in-Medical-Affairs applications and continuously bring new capabilities into the roadmap. Build the internal case for agentic AI adoption within Medical Affairs, helping business stakeholders understand what is possible and expanding from proof-of-concept to production at scale. 2. Analytics Delivery & Project Leadership Direct analytics delivery across the Medical Affairs portfolio, collaborating with cross-functional partners to drive outcomes aligned to core Medical Affairs objectives. Develop, prioritize, and implement analytics solutions that address Medical Affairs most critical questions with a clear focus on decision-quality and business impact. Build and sustain a strong process-focused culture including communication frameworks, project management standards, and delivery governance across the team. Translate business problems into a clear analytics workplan with appropriate analytics solutions for execution that will significantly drive results and impact Excellent prioritization skills; ability to manage competing demands and make clear trade-off decisions under time pressure. AI-Enabled Products, Data Solutions & Agile Delivery Collaborate on the conceptualization, development, and delivery of AI-enabled analytics products from initial ideation through to deployment and adoption in Medical Affairs workflows. Champion the integration of generative AI, large language models (LLMs), and agentic AI capabilities (multi-step autonomous systems) into the analytics product portfolio, ensuring responsible and validated use. Drive AI adoption within the team, building analyst fluency in AI-assisted workflows and establishing norms for responsible, high-quality AI usage. Drive a product-first mindset treating analytics outputs as scalable, governed, reusable assets and help build the roadmap for Medical Affairs analytics products designed for self-service and measurable business impact. Use Jira to supervise partnership and report on BI&A critical metrics (impact, innovation, and efficiency) Strategic Growth & Thought Leadership Develop a deep understanding of Medical Affairs strategy, business goals, and critical objectives (across GMAO & BU Medical Affairs) to ensure analytics and AI deliverables are tightly aligned to the broader organizational strategy. Partner closely with the Global BI&A Medical Affairs leader to co-develop the analytics and AI strategy, align on priorities, and ensure Bengaluru delivery is fully integrated with global direction including the Medical Affairs Analytics Roadmap. Demonstrated ability to communicate advanced analytics and AI concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders, including senior business leaders. Articulate analytics value proposition to collaborators and identify novel analytics use case opportunities (from internal and external sources) Enable proper use across the overall analytics portfolio by bringing the appropriate technical personnel and leadership to the table Network with industry experts, academic institutions, and technology partners to explore and introduce new approaches and solutions for analytics and AI outcomes. People Leadership & Talent Development Lead, mentor, and develop a team of analytics professionals, fostering a culture of ownership, decisive execution, and continuous learning. Hold a high bar for performance set clear expectations and provide timely feedback to help elevate performance across the team in line with Lilly's performance standards. Serve as a trusted career advisor; work with functional leadership and HR to identify growth opportunities aligned with business needs and individual aspirations. Develop a strong pipeline of analytics talent and leadership, contributing to an inclusive and high-performing community of analytics practitioners Recruit, train, develop, and retain analytics talent within your team and support development and retention of talent across teams. Required Skills & Expertise 12+ years of experience in an analytical or data science function supporting pharma/life sciences, with at least 5+ years in people leadership roles. Demonstrated hands-on experience building, deploying, or leading the delivery of AI-enabled or agentic analytics products. Strong working knowledge of generative AI, large language models (LLMs), agentic AI frameworks and how they apply to business analytics problems. Substantial analytics experience in the Medical Affairs or broader pharma commercial domain, including understanding of Medical Affairs data ecosystems and US pharmaceutical business dynamics. Proven ability to translate a long-term AI vision into a concrete, phased delivery roadmap and drive its execution across a complex, matrixed organization. Strong product thinking: experience owning an analytics or AI product roadmap, setting priorities, defining success metrics, and iterating based on adoption and business feedback. Excellent stakeholder communication skills able to make complex AI concepts accessible to senior non-technical leaders and build organizational will for transformation. Experience with cloud-based analytics platforms (e.g., Databricks, Azure) and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau); proficiency in Python, R, or SQL is a strong plus. Hands-on experience with agile delivery methodologies sprint planning, backlog management, iterative development and a genuine commitment to agile ways of working. Strong track record of leading cross-functional teams to deliver complex, high-stakes analytics projects with measurable business impact. Demonstrated ability to communicate advanced analytics and AI concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders, including senior business leaders.
