Role Overview
The Lead FTL Central Operations is responsible for managing and optimizing Full Truck Load (FTL) operations across regions. This role ensures efficient load planning, vendor management, cost control, and on-time deliveries while driving process improvements and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operations Management
- Oversee end-to-end FTL operations across Pan India
- Ensure timely placement of trucks and adherence to dispatch schedules - both contractual and SPOT
- Monitor shipment tracking, delivery timelines, and exception handling
- Drive high service levels (OTIF On Time In Full)
2. Load Planning & Optimization
- Optimize truck utilization and route planning
- Reduce empty miles and improve load efficiency
- Collaborate with warehouse and demand teams for better planning
3. Vendor & Fleet Management
- Manage transporter relationships and performance
- Negotiate rates and contracts to optimize cost
- Ensure availability of vehicles during peak demand
- Drive lease vehicles utilisation and tracking.
4. Cost Control & Reporting
- Track freight costs, identify cost-saving opportunities
- Analyze operational metrics and prepare MIS reports
- Ensure adherence to budget and cost benchmarks
5. Process Improvement
- Identify bottlenecks and implement SOPs
- Drive automation and digital adoption in operations
- Improve turnaround time (TAT) and reduce delays
6. Stakeholder Coordination
- Work closely with procurement, warehouse, and regional teams
- Coordinate with customers for delivery commitments and escalations
- Act as a central point for operational communication
7. Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor a team of operations
- Set KPIs and monitor team performance
- Ensure training and development of team members
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field (MBA preferred)
- Strong knowledge of FTL operations and transportation networks is preferred
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong decision-making skills
