Director - Pune Engineering Center of Excellence (CoE) JOB SUMMARY

The Director - Pune Engineering Center of Excellence (CoE) is accountable for the overall leadership, performance, and strategic development of the Pune engineering hub. This role is responsible for scaling, operating, and actively leading a high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary engineering organization that supports global engineering delivery through strong governance, predictable execution, and continuous capability development.

This is a working leadership role, requiring hands‑on engagement with engineering leaders, delivery challenges, and organizational build‑up. The Director ensures alignment between the Pune CoE and global engineering leadership while maintaining excellence in delivery, talent, cost efficiency, and operational maturity. The role does not own discipline‑specific technical design decisions but is fully accountable for how engineering is delivered within the CoE.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES CoE Leadership & Strategy

  • Define and execute the strategy, vision, and operating model for the Pune Engineering CoE in line with the Global Engineering Hub Strategy
  • Act as the single accountable leader for CoE performance across delivery, capability, cost, and scalability
  • Serve as the primary interface between the Pune CoE and global engineering leadership
  • Represent the Pune CoE in senior leadership forums, strategic alignment discussions, and transformation initiatives

Delivery & Performance Accountability

  • Own end‑to‑end engineering delivery performance from a CoE perspective
  • Ensure predictable, high‑quality execution across all engineering disciplines supported by the hub
  • Act as the final escalation point for delivery risks, capacity constraints, and cross‑disciplinary issues
  • Ensure engineering outputs meet agreed quality, schedule, and scope expectations

Organizational & Talent Leadership (Working Manager Role)

  • Build, lead, and actively coach the Pune engineering leadership team, including
  • Drive hands‑on involvement in organizational setup, leadership cadence, and decision‑making
  • Own headcount strategy, workforce planning, succession planning, and scalability of the CoE
  • Ensure effective onboarding, mentoring, development, and retention of engineering talent
  • Foster a leadership culture aligned with company values, accountability, and engineering excellence

Governance & Operational Oversight

  • Establish and maintain engineering governance frameworks, performance metrics, and review cadences
  • Ensure clarity of roles, responsibilities, and decision rights across the CoE organization
  • Oversee adherence to engineering processes, operating rhythms, and governance models
  • Ensure transparent performance reporting through structured KPIs and management reviews

Financial & Resource Stewardship

  • Own the CoE budget and cost efficiency targets
  • Balance cost, capacity, and capability while scaling the organization
  • Partner with global leaders to support long‑term investment, footprint, and growth decisions

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, aligned to the primary engineering discipline(s) managed by the CoE
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in engineering leadership roles
  • Proven experience leading multi‑disciplinary engineering teams, hubs, or Centers of Excellence
  • Strong understanding of engineering delivery models for complex products, systems, or capital projects
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a working leader, combining strategic leadership with operational involvement
  • Experience scaling engineering organizations and building leadership layers
  • Strong stakeholder management and cross‑cultural leadership skills
  • Business acumen with experience in budget ownership, cost control, and organizational growth

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Up to 50% travel, including regular engagement with global engineering leadership, other engineering hubs, and key stakeholders
