Job Description

Role: Director/ED– Advanced Analytics

Role Summary

  • Lead and scale PwC India's Advanced Analytics & AI capability within the Power& Utilities (P&U) practice. Drive data-driven transformation for utilities (DISCOMs,GENCOs, Transcos), renewable energy players, and energy regulators bydeveloping and delivering analytics use cases across the electricity value chain –from generation to retail.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and deliver analytics use cases across the P&U value chain:

Domain & Illustrative Use Cases :

1.Generation : Predictive maintenance (thermal/wind/solar), heat rate optimization, generation forecasting, forced outage prediction

2.Transmission & Distribution : AT&C loss analytics, DT failure prediction, feeder-level demand forecasting, outage root-cause analysis, vegetation management, theft/anomaly detection using AMI/smart meter data

3.Renewable Energy : Solar/wind generation forecasting (ML-based), portfolio optimization, resource assessment analytics, curtailment analysis

4.Retail & Consumer : Customer segmentation, load profiling, demand response targeting, tariff simulation, revenue assurance, propensity-to-pay modeling

5.Regulatory & Planning : Tariff analytics, ARR/revenue gap modeling, integrated resource planning, energy balance analytics

6.Grid & Market : Real-time grid analytics, power market price forecasting, scheduling & dispatch optimization, RE integration analytics

7.EV & New Energy : EV charging demand forecasting, DT loading impact, optimal charger placement using spatial analytics

  • Build reusable analytics assets – pre-built models, dashboards, data pipelines, and IP that can be deployed across multiple utility clients
  • Lead client engagements end-to-end – from problem framing and data assessment through model development, validation, deployment, and change management
  • Originate new business – build relationships with DISCOM MDs, GENCO heads, RE developers, regulators (CERC/SERCs), government (MoP, MNRE, BEE, PFC,REC); target ₹8–12 Cr+ annual origination
  • Publish thought leadership on AI/analytics in power sector; represent PwC at industry forums (DISTRIBELEC, India Smart Grid Forum, CII Power Summit)
  • Build and lead a team of 8–15 data scientists, analytics consultants, and domain specialists

Qualifications & Experience

  • B.E./B.Tech (Electrical/Computer Science/Data Science); MBA or M.Tech/MS (Analytics/AI/PowerSystems) preferred

Years of experience:

10–12 years total experience with:

-5+ years in advanced analytics / data science (hands-on model building, not just oversight)

-5+ years in power & utilities domain (deep understanding of utility operations, regulatory frameworks, grid systems)

  • Hands-on proficiency in Tools / Platforms :

1.Programming : Python (scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch, pandas, XGBoost), R, SQL

2.Visualization : Power BI, Tableau, Plotly/Dash

3.Big Data / Cloud : Azure (Azure ML, Databricks, Synapse), AWS (SageMaker), Spark/PySpark

4.Geospatial : QGIS / ArcGIS / GeoPandas (for network/spatial analytics)

5.Utility-specific : Familiarity with SCADA/EMS/DMS data, AMI/smart meter data (MDMS), SAP IS-U, Oracle CC&B, GIS (Smallworld/ArcGIS Utility Network)

6.MLOps : Model deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management
