Microchip's Data Center Solutions (DCS) Business Unit delivers industry-leading performance, reliability, and security across a broad portfolio of storage and connectivity solutions, including Storage Controllers, PCIe Switches, NVMe Controllers, Retimers, and Compute Express Link (CXL) products. We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Design Engineering to lead our Design and Verification organization in Bangalore, India. This is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving the architecture, design, and verification of advanced silicon solutions while fostering the growth and development of a high-performing engineering team.

The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in high-speed connectivity technologies with proven leadership experience managing global engineering teams and delivering complex ASIC/SoC products from concept through production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage multidisciplinary Design and Verification teams responsible for advanced silicon products, including PCIe Switches, Retimers, CXL Controllers, SAS Controllers, and Enterprise Flash Storage solutions.
  • Drive technical strategy, architecture, design execution, and product innovations to support next-generation data center and AI infrastructure solutions.
  • Collaborate effectively across global engineering organizations to achieve aggressive time-to-market (TTM) objectives.
  • Define architecture and implementation strategies aligned with business objectives, customer requirements, and technology roadmaps.
  • Oversee all phases of silicon development, including specification development, RTL design, functional verification, synthesis, timing closure, physical implementation support, silicon bring-up, and production release.
  • Partner closely with Architecture, Firmware, Validation, Product Management, Program Management, and Applications Engineering teams to deliver high-quality products.
  • Drive adoption of industry best practices, innovative design methodologies, and advanced verification techniques to improve design quality and engineering efficiency.
  • Build, mentor, and develop engineering talent while fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage project schedules, resource planning, risk mitigation, and execution to deliver products on time and with high quality.
  • Engage directly with customers, ecosystem partners, and key stakeholders to understand market requirements and support successful product deployment.
  • Maintain technical leadership by staying current with industry standards and emerging technologies, including PCIe, CXL, SAS, NVMe, AI infrastructure, and high-speed interconnect solutions.

    Requirements/Qualifications:

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
    • 20+ years of semiconductor industry experience, including significant leadership experience managing design and verification teams.
    • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex ASIC/SoC products from architecture through volume production.
    • Deep expertise in PCIe, CXL, SAS, NVMe, and high-speed connectivity architectures and protocols.
    • Strong hands-on knowledge of RTL design using Verilog/SystemVerilog and verification methodologies such as UVM.
    • Comprehensive understanding of the semiconductor development lifecycle, including synthesis, timing closure, physical implementation, DFT, silicon validation, and tape-out processes.
    • Demonstrated success leading geographically distributed teams within a global engineering organization.
    • Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and project execution skills.
    • Prior leadership experience working with North American engineering organizations and customers.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in Enterprise Flash Storage Controllers, PCIe Switches, Retimers, and CXL-based architectures.
    • Strong understanding of silicon security, reliability, functional safety, power management, and performance optimization techniques.
    • Experience driving customer engagements, architecture reviews, and technical roadmap discussions.
    • Previous experience working within multinational semiconductor companies.
    • Knowledge of AI infrastructure, hyperscale data center architectures, and emerging memory technologies is highly desirable.
