Job DescriptionSenior Director Data Engineering (Financial Services)Role OverviewWe are seeking a Senior Director Data Engineering with deep experience in building and leading large-scale data platforms and cloud-based solutions within the Financial Services domain. The ideal candidate should have a strong technical foundation in software development, progressed into solution architecture, and currently operates at a leadership level driving cloud and data platform strategies.
This role requires a leader who can balance strategic solutioning (70%) with delivery oversight (30%), while managing senior stakeholders and driving large financial data transformation programs.
Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership & Solutioning (70%)- Define and drive data engineering strategy and architecture for financial services clients.
- Design scalable cloud-based data platforms, data lakes, and analytics ecosystems.
- Lead solution architecture discussions and shape complex data engineering proposals for clients.
- Provide technical leadership across modern data stacks and cloud ecosystems.
- Work closely with sales, presales, and delivery teams to design innovative data solutions.
Delivery Oversight (30%)- Oversee delivery of large-scale data engineering programs.
- Ensure successful execution of projects involving data pipelines, data platforms, and analytics systems.
- Monitor program performance, timelines, and quality of technical delivery.
- Guide engineering teams and architecture teams to implement scalable and secure solutions.
Stakeholder & Client Management- Engage with senior client stakeholders (VPs, Directors, CIOs, Data Leaders).
- Translate business requirements into technical data platform solutions.
- Manage relationships across business, technology, and delivery teams.
- Provide executive-level updates on program progress and transformation initiatives.
Required Experience- 1822 years of total experience in technology and data engineering.
- Career progression ideally includes:Early career as Software Developer / Engineer
Progression into Solution Architect / Technical Architect
Current role involving Cloud and Data Platform Leadership
- Strong experience in Data Engineering and Cloud-based architectures.
- Minimum 23 years of stability in previous organizations.
Domain Experience- Strong background in Financial Services / Banking / Capital Markets / FinTech.
- Experience managing large financial data programs or transformation initiatives.
- Must have handled financial operations or programs with a budget or portfolio value of $15M+.
Technical Exposure (Any Modern Tech Stack)Candidates may have experience with one or more modern data platforms or cloud ecosystems, such as:
