BMS BIA (Business Insights and Analytics) is a corporate function with the mission to create objective analytics and insights for business units to drive competitive advantage and accelerate growth. The Global Product Development and Supply (GPS) business unit is responsible for the development, manufacturing, and supply of quality clinical and commercial drugs to the right patients at the right time. The BIA GPS Team partners with GPS stakeholders to develop analytics capabilities and drive fact-based decision-making.
We are expanding our presence beyond the USA and Europe markets and building a high caliber team based in the BMS Hyderabad offices. This role offers a truly unique opportunity to build out a new team and play a key role in recruiting, strategy setting and managing our Hyderabad Team. This team will initially focus on providing operational analytics support to other BIA GPS Teams and ensure that our products continue to serve the most pressing GPS analytics needs. The first wave of hiring will be 5-10 people in early 2024. The role will expand during 2024-2025 to managing a larger team (20-30 people) responsible for advanced analytics capabilities as well, such as predictive modeling, simulation, and optimization.

Roles and Responsibilities
Team Building and People Operations
- Review, screen, and interview candidates for open BIA GPS Hyderabad roles using both behavioral and technical evaluation techniques, with an emphasis on building a high performing team of analytics generalists who demonstrate the BMS Values
- Implement appropriate onboarding and training to ensure new team members are rapidly able to become productive members of the team
- Establish an on-call process to partner with BIA GPS US and Europe teams with appropriate service level agreement (SLA) and work hour overlap
- Establish cross-training programs and knowledge repositories to eliminate single points of failure and ensure analytics continuity
- Develop annual team goals, cascade appropriately to your team, monitor and report on progress and recommend changes as needed
- Coach, develop and mentor the team with an eye towards creating a highly engaged and motivated workforce
Technical Operations
- Establish and manage the team's Sprint process for work allocation using agile methodology
- Ensure the team is following technical best practices in building, maintaining, and enhancing analytics output with scalable solutions, including code version control, pipeline management, deployment, and documentation
- Ensure team is adhering to the BIA GPS operating model for work intake, SLA adherence, prioritization, execution, logging, and documentation
- Develop and maintain a framework for measuring the value of the work output of the team to inform resource deployment and prioritization
- Ensure existing high-value analytics continue to function and are maintained and enhanced at an appropriate level of investment
- Identify and implement opportunities to enhance high-value analytics, including further automation or addition of value-added features
- Evaluate new analytics technology and proactively make recommendations to BIA GPS LT on technology with significant expected ROI
Stakeholder Engagement
- Establish close collaboration with BMS IT Teams, with a particular emphasis on building strong connections with the Hyderabad based IT Team
- Work proactively with IT to ensure data likely to be needed for future analytics is available in the Enterprise Data Lake (EDL)
- Work collaboratively with USA and Europe based BIA GPS Team members and LT to establish, prioritize and deliver the team's book of work
- Interact directly with GPS stakeholders as needed to solve problems in an agile manner and further advance the use of analytics within GPS
- Identify work that is low value and should be deprioritized and work with BIA GPS LT and stakeholders to make the business case

- 5 or more years of experience building and/or managing a team of analytics professionals
- 10 (B.Tech), 8 (M.Tech) or 6 (Ph.D) or more years of experience working in a data and analytics role, including direct development experience
- Hands on experience with the following elements of our technology stack is required: GitHub; SQL; Python or R
- Hands on experience with the following elements of our technology stack is desired: Domino, AWS, dbt, Tableau
- Experience with code version control
- Experience building user-centric visualizations and dashboards a significant plus
- Experience with cloud-based ELT pipelines a significant plus
- Experience building and deploying predictive models (MLOps) a significant plus
- Experience building simulation and optimization models a plus
- Experience with major GPS applications (including SAP, Oracle, LIMS, Infinity, MES) a plus
- Experience using agile methodology and associated tools such as JIRA a plus
- Experience with biopharma product development, manufacturing operations, supply chain, or quality controls a significant plus
- Ready ability to work hours that provide sufficient overlap with standard east coast US working hours
The role will involve occasional travel to other BMS locations, primarily in New Jersey, USA.
