Role: Direct Tax Specialist

About the Team and the Role
The Corporate Finance & Accounts team at Ather is responsible for ensuring financial integrity, robust internal reporting, book closure, statutory audits, and managing the end-to-end direct tax compliance, advisory, and litigation framework across the organization.
This role is for a Direct Tax Specialist who will independently manage corporate tax compliances, foreign remittance tax advisory, transfer pricing, and direct tax litigations, while providing strategic advisory support to various business functions.
Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end Direct Tax compliance cycle, including Corporate Income Tax returns, Tax Audit Reports (Form 3CD/3CEB), and periodic filing of TDS/TCS returns.
- Handle entire foreign remittance tax compliance, including advisory on withholding tax applicability under existing laws and DTAA, document reviews, and 15CA/CB certifications.
- Assist in preparing Transfer Pricing documentation (Master File) and reviewing arm's length benchmarking reports for inter-company transactions.
- Support internal reporting, book keeping, 26AS reconciliation, and book closure while closely collaborating with auditors on quarterly, interim, and final statutory audits.
- Provide advisory support to business functions regarding TDS masters, routine TDS queries, employee incentive reviews, and tax analysis for new domestic and international business models.
- Partner with the Team Lead on direct tax projects, monitor changes in tax laws impacting the sector, and proactively update the team on key developments.
- Manage direct tax litigations and assessments, including preparing data for submissions, closing departmental audits, and liaising directly with tax authorities.
- Assist in ERP and system developments to drive automated tax processes within the company.
Experience and Qualifications
- A certified Chartered Accountant (CA).
- 3-5 years of experience, with prior experience in working with Big 4 organizations and preferably within the manufacturing sector.
Must Have Competencies
- Comprehensive expertise in Corporate and International Taxation, including detailed workflows for Transfer Pricing regulations.
- Extensive experience in executing direct tax compliances, handling comprehensive tax audits, and managing direct tax litigation procedures.
- Advanced proficiency in utilizing MS Office tools, specifically Excel and PowerPoint, to analyze financial data and build reports.
- Functional competency in operating within integrated ERP systems to manage tax data and support compliance workflows.
Good to Have Competencies
- Hands-on functional experience and operational familiarity with SAP ERP systems.
- Foundational understanding of indirect tax frameworks and their cross-functional intersection with direct tax processes.
