Job Description

Role Summary

We are looking for a hands-on Digital Workplace Manager to lead and strengthen our workplace technology function. This role is a blend of people leadership, technical oversight, and senior-level contribution across Microsoft 365 and related Azure services.

The right person will be comfortable managing a small team while still staying close to the technology. They will help set direction, mentor engineers, support escalations, improve service quality, and drive delivery across the Microsoft workplace stack.

Key Responsibilities

Team leadership and people management

  • Lead a small Digital Workplace team responsible for Microsoft 365 and related workplace platforms
  • Provide day-to-day direction, coaching, mentoring, and performance support for team members
  • Act as the main escalation point for complex operational and technical issues
  • Help define team structure, role clarity, and ways of working
  • Identify hiring needs and support recruitment, onboarding, and development of additional engineers

Technical leadership

  • Provide hands-on leadership across Microsoft 365 technologies such as Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Intune, Entra ID, and related services
  • Support solution design, technical decision-making, and engineering standards across the team
  • Partner with Azure-focused team members on integrations, identity, automation, security, and cloud-native services
  • Review technical designs and changes to ensure scalability, supportability, and alignment with business needs
  • Stay close enough to the environment to troubleshoot major issues and guide senior technicians through complex work

Service ownership and delivery

  • Own the health, stability, and continuous improvement of Digital Workplace services
  • Balance operational support, project delivery, and longer-term modernization efforts
  • Work with business and IT stakeholders to understand priorities and translate them into actionable plans
  • Establish and improve processes for support, change management, documentation, and service transitions
  • Track delivery, risks, dependencies, and service issues, and communicate clearly to leadership

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 technologies in engineering, administration, or architecture roles
  • 2+ years of team leadership, people management, or technical leadership experience
  • Strong practical knowledge of core Microsoft 365 services, especially:
  • Exchange Online
  • Teams 
  • SharePoint Online
  • OneDrive 
  • Intune 
  • Entra ID
  • Experience leading technical delivery in production environments
  • Experience handling escalations, coordinating cross-team work, and improving service operations
  • Experience mentoring engineers and helping develop technical capability within a team 
  • Ability to communicate clearly with both technical teams and business stakeholders 

Azure Knowledge Expected

The role does not need to be the deepest Azure engineer on the team, but the person should have solid working knowledge of Azure in areas such as:

  • Azure identity and access concepts
  • Azure governance and resource organization
  • Integration between Azure and Microsoft 365 services
  • Automation and cloud services relevant to workplace solutions
  • Basic understanding of Azure-native services used alongside M365 environments

They should be able to guide conversations, challenge designs, make informed decisions, and work effectively with senior Azure engineers.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Power Platform, Power Automate, or RPA-focused initiatives
  • Experience with Microsoft security and compliance capabilities within M365
  • Experience with Microsoft Copilot, Azure AI, or workplace AI initiatives
  • Experience with hybrid identity and legacy-to-cloud migration efforts
  • Experience building or leading service improvement programs
  • Microsoft certifications related to M365, Azure, security, or modern workplace
