About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated DevOps Engineer to be the first dedicated professional in this domain within our organization. In this role, you will assume primary responsibility for our infrastructure and delivery pipelines while also contributing to backend service development. The position is a hands-on, individual contributor role, with approximately 70% focus on DevOps activities and 30% on backend engineering. You will collaborate closely with our international engineering team to enhance system reliability, scalability, and security.

Your initial focus will be to thoroughly understand our existing infrastructure, identify key opportunities for improvement, and develop a practical roadmap for implementation. You will leverage existing tools such as Datadog, establish CI/CD pipelines, and introduce infrastructure as code practices. Containerization will also be a key area of focus where it adds value. Your expertise will help us select and implement the right tools and methodologies to support our growth stage and operational needs.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have over five years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, or backend development, with proven responsibility for production infrastructure. You should have a track record of delivering impactful improvements, demonstrating the ability to prioritize tasks based on customer impact, risk, and effort. Hands-on experience with automation tools such as GitHub Actions, Terraform, and Docker or similar is essential. Strong cloud platform knowledge, Linux expertise, and networking skills are required, along with a solid understanding of troubleshooting, incident response, and infrastructure security. Additionally, proficiency in backend development with PHP, Python, or Node.js, coupled with strong SQL/MySQL skills, is necessary. Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate asynchronously across time zones are also important.

Responsibilities

• Choose the right improvements: Assess current infrastructure for reliability, security, deployment workflows, and cost efficiency. Prioritize initiatives based on customer impact, risk, and effort, then execute accordingly.
• Make releases repeatable: Develop robust CI/CD pipelines, create reproducible environments, automate manual processes, and ensure safe deployment and rollback procedures.
• Maintain reliable and scalable infrastructure: Oversee hosting, networking, and capacity planning. Set and track reliability targets, enhance Datadog alerting, and address bottlenecks while managing costs effectively.
• Enhance security and disaster recovery: Improve access controls, secrets management, and patching routines. Establish, test, and maintain backup, restore, and disaster recovery plans.
• Engage in backend development: Build secure APIs and backend services, optimize MySQL performance, and ensure code quality through meaningful testing and documentation.
• Build operational capabilities: Document runbooks, share operational knowledge, lead incident investigations, and participate in on-call rotations, including outside working hours, to ensure prompt incident response and resolution.
