Job Description

Position: Deputy Manager

Role: Cloud Engineering & Operations Engineer (AWS)

Role Summary

As a Deputy Manager – Cloud Operations & Engineering, you will lead the design, engineering, and operational management of enterprise AWS cloud platforms. This role will be responsible for ensuring high availability, security, scalability, and cost optimization of cloud infrastructure while driving CloudOps governance, automation, and operational excellence across the organization.

You will work closely with application teams, DevOps engineers, security teams, and business stakeholders to ensure cloud platforms are delivered and operated using industry best practices, standardized architectures, and automation-driven operations. The role also involves technical leadership, team mentoring, and cloud capability development within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Strategy & Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for AWS Cloud Operations and Engineering initiatives.
  • Lead the design and evolution of enterprise cloud platforms and operational frameworks.
  • Establish and enforce CloudOps standards, governance frameworks, and best practices aligned with AWS Well-Architected principles.
  • Act as the technical escalation point for complex cloud architecture and operational challenges.
  • Support cloud adoption strategies and modernization initiatives across business units.

Cloud Platform Engineering & Architecture Oversight

  • Oversee the design, deployment, and lifecycle management of AWS infrastructure platforms.
  • Ensure cloud environments are secure, scalable, highly available, and resilient.
  • Review and approve Infrastructure as Code (IaC) implementations using CloudFormation and/or Terraform.
  • Drive standardization, modular architecture, and reusable infrastructure components.
  • Guide teams in adopting modern cloud-native architectures and containerized workloads.

Operational Excellence & Service Reliability

  • Own the operational health of AWS environments, ensuring reliability, performance, security, and compliance.
  • Drive incident management, problem management, and root cause analysis for cloud services.
  • Implement SRE principles, monitoring frameworks, and operational dashboards.
  • Ensure adherence to SLAs, SLOs, KPIs, and operational performance metrics.
  • Lead initiatives to improve automation, self-service capabilities, and operational efficiency.

Cloud Governance, Security & Compliance

  • Implement enterprise cloud governance models, policies, and operational guardrails.
  • Ensure adherence to security best practices, IAM standards, network segmentation, and compliance frameworks.
  • Collaborate with security teams to implement cloud security posture management and vulnerability remediation.
  • Ensure audit readiness, compliance reporting, and security controls across cloud environments.

Stakeholder Engagement & Delivery Management

  • Collaborate with application teams, DevOps teams, product owners, and business stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance on cloud architecture, deployment strategies, and operational readiness.
  • Plan and coordinate CloudOps deliverables within Agile and DevOps delivery models.
  • Ensure timely delivery of cloud infrastructure capabilities aligned with business priorities.

Team Leadership & Capability Development

  • Lead and mentor a team of CloudOps engineers and DevOps specialists.
  • Drive knowledge sharing, technical skill development, and engineering best practices.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and operational excellence.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and performance development of cloud engineering teams.

Financial Management & Cost Optimization

  • Lead initiatives for cloud cost governance, optimization, and financial accountability.
  • Implement cost monitoring, rightsizing strategies, and budgeting controls.
  • Provide cost visibility and reporting to leadership teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and ROI on cloud investments.

Educational Background

Mandatory

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline

Preferred

  • M.Tech / M.C.A or equivalent

AWS Professional Certifications Such As

AWS Solutions Architect – Professional

AWS DevOps Engineer – Professional

Experience

Required

  • 10–15 years of overall IT experience
  • 7+ years of experience in AWS Cloud Engineering / Cloud Operations
  • Experience managing enterprise-scale cloud platforms and multi-account AWS environments
  • Proven experience in leading technical teams and cloud transformation initiatives
  • Strong exposure to Agile, DevOps, and Site Reliability Engineering practices

Technical Skills

Primary Skills (Must Have)

AWS Platform & Services (Strong Working Knowledge)

Strong hands-on understanding of core AWS services including:

EC2, ECS/ECR, S3, CloudFront, CloudWatch, SNS/SES, RDS, EFS, VPC, Route53, Systems Manager, Auto Scaling

  • Experience managing large-scale AWS environments
  • Designing secure VPC architectures and network segmentation

Cloud Architecture & Governance

  • Strong understanding of AWS Well-Architected Framework
  • Experience managing multi-account environments using AWS Organizations
  • Implementing governance models, guardrails, and operational policies

Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

  • Expertise in CloudFormation and/or Terraform
  • Designing modular and reusable infrastructure components
  • Governance and review of IaC templates for security, scalability, and compliance

DevOps & CI/CD

  • Experience with Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Bitbucket, GitHub
  • Designing deployment pipelines, automated testing, and rollback strategies
  • Integration with IaC-based deployments

Containers & Modern Workloads

  • Strong understanding of Docker and container lifecycle
  • Experience with ECS-based workloads
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes/EKS environments (preferred)

Cloud Security & Compliance

  • Strong understanding of IAM, encryption, secrets management, and network security
  • Experience implementing security best practices and compliance controls
  • Exposure to security monitoring and vulnerability management tools

Monitoring, Reliability & Performance

  • Implementing observability frameworks using CloudWatch and monitoring tools
  • Designing alerting, dashboards, and operational metrics
  • Driving SLA/SLO-based reliability improvements

Linux Administration

Secondary Skills (Good to Have)

  • RHEL / CentOS installation and administration
  • LVM, patching, troubleshooting
  • Bash/Shell scripting
  • Performance tuning and monitoring

Exposure to configuration management or automation tools such as Ansible or PowerShell

Soft Skills (Mandatory)

  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
  • Proactive mindset with ability to handle operational pressure
