Position: Design Project Manager / Design Co-ordinator

Location: Ahmedabad, India

Reporting To: Technical Director / Managing Director

Industry: Engineering Design Consultancy (Maritime / Infrastructure / Structural)

Role Objective

The Design Project Manager (DPM) shall be responsible for end-to-end coordination, planning, and delivery of multi-disciplinary design projects.

The role focuses on managing interfaces between in-house design teams, external subconsultants, and clients, ensuring timely, coordinated, and high-quality design deliverables.

The DPM should possess sufficient technical understanding to manage and review multi-disciplinary engineering outputs.

Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil / Structural / Construction Management / Architecture
  • Master's degree preferred but not mandatory
  • 57 years total professional experience
  • Minimum 24 years in design coordination / project management role
  • Experience in consultancy environment is essential

Software & Tools

  • MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint (mandatory)
  • MS Project / Primavera (preferred)
  • AutoCAD (reading & markup level)
  • Familiarity with document management systems is an advantage

  • Design workflows and consultant deliverables
  • Interface management between various stake holders of the project
  • Familiarity with engineering codes, standards, and approval processes

  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Planning & Delivery

  • Prepare and maintain project execution plans, design schedules, and milestone charts
  • Break down project scope into discipline-wise deliverables
  • Track progress against agreed schedules and proactively flag risks
  • Ensure on-time submission of drawings, reports, and documents

2. Multi-Disciplinary Design Coordination

  • Coordinate between:
  • In-house design teams
  • External subconsultants
  • Manage design interfaces and resolve clashes across disciplines
  • Organize and chair design coordination meetings
  • Maintain design issue logs, action trackers, and interface matrices

3. Client Communication & Management

  • Act as the single point of contact for routine project communication
  • Consolidate inputs and responses from all disciplines
  • Manage scope change register, clarifications, and scope adjustments
  • Support the Project Director during key client meetings and presentations

4. Subconsultant Management

  • Coordinate scope, deliverables, and schedules with subconsultants
  • Review submissions for completeness, compliance, and coordination
  • Track contractual deliverables and support invoice processing
  • Escalate performance or quality concerns in a timely manner

5. Quality & Documentation Control

  • Ensure adherence to internal quality procedures and project standards
  • Coordinate internal reviews and approvals
  • Maintain organized project records, correspondence, and submissions

6. Internal Team Support

  • Provide clear direction to engineers and drafters regarding priorities
  • Shield technical teams from unnecessary coordination overhead
  • Promote collaborative working and accountability within the project team
  • Escalate critical issues to management with proposed solutions
