Seeking an experienced Design Lead with expertise in automotive interior trim systems, including Instrument Panel (IP), Cross Car Beam (CCB), and Door Trim components. The role involves end-to-end product design and development, CAD modeling, validation support, supplier coordination, engineering releases, and cross-functional collaboration. The candidate should have strong knowledge of automotive interior systems, manufacturing processes, DFMEA/DVP&R, GD&T, and product development lifecycle activities, with experience working in OEM or Tier-1 environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and release of interior trim systems including Instrument Panel (IP), Cross Car Beam (CCB), and Door Trim components.
- Own component and system-level design activities from concept through production release.
- Develop and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and release documentation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including vehicle engineering, CAE, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and suppliers to ensure successful product development.
- Perform design reviews, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, DVP&R, and support validation activities.
- Ensure compliance with quality, safety, durability, NVH, regulatory, and vehicle performance requirements.
- Support manufacturing and assembly feasibility studies, tooling reviews, and design-for-manufacturing initiatives.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to cost, weight, quality, and product performance.
- Manage engineering changes, BOM updates, and product releases in line with program milestones.
- Support prototype builds, validation activities, production launch, and issue resolution through root cause analysis.
- Work closely with suppliers to ensure technical feasibility, timely development, and successful product delivery.
Qualifications
B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech in Automotive/Mechanical/Production Engg.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Automobile, Production, or Industrial Engineering.
- 6–8 years of experience in automotive product design and development of interior systems such as Instrument Panel, Cross Car Beam, Door Trims, Center Console, or related cockpit components.
- Experience in component and system-level design within automotive product development programs.
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as CATIA or NX.
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes including plastic injection molding, sheet metal, stamping, welding, and assembly processes.
- Experience in DFMEA, DVP&R, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and engineering release processes.
- Knowledge of automotive interior regulations, quality standards, durability, and NVH requirements.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with automotive OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers is preferred.
Desired Skills
- Knowledge of design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles.
- Exposure to interior trim materials, soft trims, structural cockpit components, and validation activities.
- Experience supporting CAE, durability, crashworthiness, and NVH assessments.
- Familiarity with PLM systems and engineering change management processes.
