Roles & Responsibilities:

The Design Engineer -1 shall report to the respective Area Design Manager. A Design Engineer 1 will be responsible for the development of highway, C, drainage, and large-scale developments designs, in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring the coordination with other infrastructure & asset management programmes and adherence to specifications, standards, policies, procedures, contractual requirements, regulations and leading practices

The Design Engineer -1 will be responsible for any other tasks that are allocated to him / her by their direct Manager or the Lead.

• Participate in the design development and review processes in coordination with third parties including follow-up on accurate implementation of roads, highway, drainage and large-scale developments, quality control measures, recommendations on design issues, and risk management.
• Review / monitor all road design technical specification and design plans from concept through the detailed design, verify the accuracy of the drawings, and maintain design comment logs. Ensure drawings comply with established design policies and standards, applicable codes, and regulations.
• Participate in the assessment of design drawings, detailed scale plans for roadways, highways, drainage, and large-scale developments, based on preliminary concepts, ensuring continuous coordination to rectify identified issues, (if any) and establish effective mitigation measures. Coordinate and update design systems and schemes, to rehabilitate and refurbish existing roadways / highway and large-scale developments ensuring the optimization of their use.
• Evaluate in coordination with third parties proposed / in progress design plans and drawings, and where necessary modify to suite relevant standards, specifications, and quality. Liaise with the relevant Project Delivery Teams and Design Engineers to ensure conformity to the overall plan, and project delivery timeframe.
• Participate in the identification / review of design related risks and coordinate third parties for establishing appropriate controls to mitigate the risks as and when required.
• Outline objectives, requirements, and design approaches, on various civil transportation and drainage projects including highway, roadway design and large-scale developments.
• As and when required, attend progress meetings with third parties and other design professionals, to agree on the design scope and design timescales with other Ashghal departments, monitoring progress and ensuring delivery and assess progress of designs / construction.
• Monitor the outcomes of site visits, and major variations to set designs, and provide inputs to assist in ensuring that project is being completed as per PWA's specifications and client requirements.
• Ensure the Quality of Designs that are approved by the Designs Department by adhering to the Department's business processes and keep the Area Designs Manager and the Designs Department's Management informed of significant design issues that may jeopardize the achievement of the PWA's goals.
• Keep current with the latest market trends and developments and stay abreast with current trends and leading practices in roads and drainage systems design / approaches / tools. Stay abreast of changes in the applicable codes / any other applicable standards.
