Design Engineer (Mechanical) Role

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in Special Purpose Machine (SPM) design, fixture development, workstation design, and mechanical automation for New Product Development (NPD) projects.

The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in developing mechanical concepts, designing automation mechanisms, selecting pneumatic and mechanical components, and creating detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using Creo. The candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, cost-effective, and manufacturable engineering solutions within project timelines.

Roles & Responsibilities

Design and develop Special Purpose Machines (SPMs), fixtures, jigs, workstations, and mechanical systems based on project and manufacturing requirements.
Develop new mechanical concepts and mechanisms for automation and machine design applications.
Create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings using Creo.
Perform tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure proper fit, function, and assembly accuracy.
Design ergonomic workstations and fixtures in accordance with manufacturing requirements and applicable ergonomic standards.
Develop and optimize assembly mechanisms to improve productivity, efficiency, safety, and ease of operation.
Identify and select appropriate mechanical and pneumatic components based on application requirements.
Perform component selection for motors, VFDs, sensors, pneumatic systems, and IoT-enabled automation applications.
Support manufacturing and assembly process planning by ensuring designs meet practical production requirements.
Collaborate with production, quality, sourcing, project engineering, and other stakeholders for successful project execution.
Review existing designs and implement improvements related to cost optimization, performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including BOMs, detailed drawings, calculations, and design revision records.
Participate in design reviews, prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and validation activities.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and designers whenever required.
Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, safety requirements, and organizational design practices.

Mandatory Skills & Technical Requirements

Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical design and development.
Strong experience in Special Purpose Machine (SPM) design and fixture development for NPD projects.
Hands-on experience in developing new mechanical mechanisms for automation and machine design applications.
Proficiency in 3D modelling, assembly design, and detailed drawing creation using Creo.
Experience in fixture, jig, and workstation design.
Strong knowledge of pneumatic systems and component selection.
Understanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
Experience in tolerance stack-up analysis and engineering drawing interpretation.
Knowledge of manufacturing assembly processes and ergonomic workstation design.
Ability to coordinate with cross-functional engineering, production, quality, and sourcing teams.

Desired Skills

Exposure to electrical and automation components such as motors, VFDs, sensors, and IoT-based systems.
Experience in automation equipment development and assembly line integration.
Knowledge of cost optimization, value engineering, and design improvement activities.
Experience in prototype development, testing, and design validation.
Familiarity with industry engineering standards and safety requirements.

Additional Requirements

Candidates must possess strong communication skills.
Recruiter Prescreening: Profiles must be prescreened for good communication skills before submission to the client.
Candidates should demonstrate hands-on mechanical design experience rather than only drafting or drawing experience.
Preference will be given to candidates with practical SPM, automation mechanism, fixture, and pneumatic system design experience.
