Role: Design Engineer - Hardware Packaging

About the Team and the Role The Hardware Packaging team at Ather is responsible for the design, development, and sustenance engineering of various electro-mechanical packaging for electric two-wheeler and charging infrastructure projects.
This role is for a Design Engineer - Hardware Packaging who will manage the end-to-end design, development, testing, validation, and sustenance engineering of electro-mechanical packaging, box builds, and associated assemblies.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop electronic and electro-mechanical systems (dashboards, controllers, converters, chargers, sensors) and their enclosures in plastic, sheet metal, and casting.
- Test and validate designed systems and vehicle architecture, executing regression testing (thermals, sealing, vibration, shock, structural) and DVT.
- Ensure manufacturability of electronic box build assemblies and drive quality controls for tools, jigs, fixtures, and EOL test equipment at supplier locations.
- Execute electromechanical interaction analysis, impact analysis, and tolerance stack-up analysis to guarantee system integrity.
- Maximize platform and design resource reuse to reduce TTM and costs, incorporating design lessons learned into new projects.
- Contribute to DFMEA, DFM, DFA, DFC, DFS, DFR, component selection, and perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on field failures to implement CAPA.
- Support regulatory compliance processes (UL, ARAI, BIS, IEC standards) for electrical and electronic assemblies.
- Apply structured problem-solving methodologies and manage project execution utilizing PMP and Agile frameworks.
Experience And Qualifications
- B.Tech/M.Tech with specialization in Mechanical, Automobile, or Manufacturing Engineering
- 2-5 years of experience in the design and development of plastics, casting, and sheet-metal for electro-mechanical components
Must Have Competencies
- Mechanical design of plastic, sheet metal, and casting enclosures with integrated electromechanical packaging.
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) alongside tolerance stack-up analysis and First Article Report (FAR) generation.
- Quality and failure prevention planning using DFMEA, PFMEA, DFM, DFA, DFC, and DFR methodologies.
- Integration of sealing and venting mechanisms, thermal design interfaces, and PCBA packaging considering power dissipation and EMI/EMC.
Good to Have Competencies
- Experience with mechanical design and tracking software including Siemens NX, PLM (Teamcenter, JIRA), and CAE tools (Ansys/Fluent).
- Execution of product development lifecycles adhering to Agile and PMP methodologies.
- Application of supplier quality frameworks and standards including APQP, PPAP, supplier audits, and basic tool design.
- Problem-solving using industry-standard frameworks such as 5-Why analysis, Fishbone diagrams, and Pugh Matrix.
