We are seeking a proficient and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer (Fixture Designer) with experience in fixture design, GD&T, machining, DFM and strong shop-floor exposure. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in mechanical engineering principles and demonstrate excellent 3D modeling and 2D drafting skills. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, high-quality fixture design solutions that enable successful manufacturing of our products.
Our Team
This team has global engineering ownership across several Connector Product Lines, provides Product Design and Validation Services, designs and develops Mold & Die Tooling, Gage & Fixture, Product Testing Systems and Application Tooling services to customers and stakeholders in Datacom and Specialty Solutions Division located across the globe. The Division primarily provides products and solutions that go into Datacenter and related infrastructure that powers cloud computing, artificial intelligence, etc. The position will be part of this engineering team at Molex India Business Services.
What You Will Do
- 1. Design and sustenance of Fixtures and complex tooling assemblies for manufacturing and testing of High-speed data cables for data storage, cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
- 2. Design high precision fixture 3D models and assemblies ensuring accuracy, precision, and adherence to design specifications.
- 3. Collaborate with Supervisor and team members to interpret technical specifications and voice of customers, and convert them into detailed designs, 3D models and 2D drawings.
- 4. Ability to work independently, execute projects with minimal Supervision, meeting project timelines and quality requirements
- 5. Create and maintain engineering documentation, including bills of materials (BOMs), and release packages, within Teamcenter and ECTR.
- 6. Conduct design reviews and participate in cross-functional meetings to provide technical insights and recommendations for design improvements.
- 7. Perform tolerance analysis and verification of parts and assemblies to ensure fit, form, and function.
- 8. Conduct design feasibility studies, identifying potential issues or constraints and proposing solutions to optimize designs.
- 9. Conduct risk assessment and come up with solutions to mitigate impact.
- 10. Collaborate closely with manufacturing and production teams to address design-related issues, resolve manufacturing discrepancies, and support the development of efficient manufacturing processes.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- 1. Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering
- 2. 3 to 5 years in Fixture Design for precision components.
- 3. Good understanding of manufacturing processes such as molding, sheet metal tooling, fabrication of components and assembly processes
- 4. Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance
- 5. Working knowledge of material selection, product and component manufacturing process
- 6. Ability to work independently on concepts, evaluate risk in design, come up with mitigation plans and assess solution alternatives
- 7. Analytical ability to apply logical reasoning, test assumptions, observe results and make corrections
- 8. Proficient in using solid modeling software to generate 3D models & 2D drafting
- 9. Strong English verbal and written communication skills that demonstrate the ability to express complex technical concepts clearly and concisely
- 10. Good interpersonal skills to work effectively with others and in a team
What Will Put You Ahead
- 1. Exposure to Sheetmetal design, Machine design and hands on manufacturing experience.
- 2. Proficient in using DFM and DFA concepts in your designs.
- 3. Good knowledge of conventional and advanced Machining, Assembly line process and Prototype techniques like 3D printing.
- 4. Proficient in Siemens NX, Team Center and PLM/PDM
- 5. Experience working in Connector or related industry
- 6. Good knowledge and understanding of electromechanical products, components and assemblies
- 7. Knowledge or Hands on experience in domains like Press tool and Die Design
- 8. Master's/Additional qualification in Design/Manufacturing/Tooling engineering from reputed institutes
