Aagor Daagra Afad is a non-profit organization based in Assam, dedicated to empowering women weavers from the Bodoland region since 2002. Originating as a project under The ANT, Aagor became a registered Charitable Trust in 2005 and is recognized as a pioneer in blending traditional tribal designs with contemporary fashion. It has gained national attention, including showcases at events like Lakme Fashion Week, while connecting indigenous Bodo handloom work to urban and international markets. Through its weaver-led governance model, Aagor focuses on ethical craft production, cultural preservation, and sustainable livelihoods. The organization is committed to empowering women and promoting fair, culturally rooted economic opportunities in the post-conflict region of Assam.

About the Role

Aagor Daagra Afad is seeking a motivated and skilled Design & Project Assistant to support the revival and strengthening of its textile design capacity. The Design & Project Assistant will assist the in-house designer and the Project Manager in developing contemporary and traditional handloom products, introducing new materials such as linen and wool, and helping to rebuild a strong base of skilled women weavers through systematic identification, training, and mentoring. The role also involves rigorous monitoring and documentation of project activities.

What You'll Do

  • Assist the in-house designer in design development and creation of new handloom products across cotton, linen, and wool
  • Work closely with women weavers, engaging, training, and supporting them through the process
  • Assist in day-to-day project implementation and field activities
  • Help coordinate production to ensure quality and timely delivery
  • Maintain simple documentation of designs, progress, and project work
  • Contribute to meetings, workshops, and overall team coordination as needed

Who You Are

  • Diploma or degree in handloom technology or a related field (candidates with equivalent practical experience of a minimum 3years in the same field will also be considered).
  • 1 or 2 years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated experience or strong interest in handloom textiles, natural fibres, and traditional as well as advanced weaving techniques.
  • Prior experience working with artisan groups, women's collectives, or community-based livelihood programmes is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in photography and maintaining design records or documentation systems.
  • Good communication skills in Assamese and/or Bodo; working knowledge of Hindi or English is desirable.
  • Willingness to be based in the field, travel within Chirang District, and work closely with weavers and community members.
