Role Overview
We are seeking an Architect with strong Computational Design expertise to help integrate data-driven, parametric, and algorithmic thinking into our architectural design practice. The role is not limited to tool usage aloneit is about strategic application, identifying where and when computational methods add real value across different project types and design stages. The candidate will work closely with design teams to support concept development, design optimization, performance-driven decisions, and exploratory studies, while also helping the firm define a practical roadmap for adopting computational design workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Project Integration
- Apply computational design methods to architectural projects across selected stages such as:
- Concept design & massing studies
- Spatial organization and program optimization
- Environmental analysis (daylight, ventilation, solar exposure, etc.)
- Faade logic, geometry rationalization, and pattern systems
- Option generation and design iteration
- Translate architectural intent into parametric logic, ensuring design quality remains central.
- Support design teams with custom workflows, scripts, and visual tools that enhance exploration and decision-making.
Computational Strategy & Direction
- Assess the firm's current design workflows and identify areas where computational tools can add value.
- Recommend a phased adoption strategy for computational designstarting with quick, impactful applications and evolving toward more advanced use cases.
- Help define best practices, templates, and reusable systems for future projects.
- Stay informed about emerging tools, platforms, and methods, and evaluate their relevance to the firm's practice.
Tools & Technology
- Work confidently with a range of computational and parametric design tools, such as:
- Rhino + Grasshopper
- Environmental analysis plugins
- Visual scripting and basic programming (Python or equivalent)
- Interoperability with BIM platforms (e.g., Revit, IFC-based workflows)
- Develop clear visual outputsdiagrams, animations, studies, and data-driven graphicsto communicate design logic internally and to clients.
Collaboration & Knowledge Building
- Collaborate closely with Architects, Urban Designers, and Project Leads.
- Assist in upskilling internal teams through informal training, workshops, or project-based learning.
- Act as a bridge between design intuition and computational logic.
- Contribute to the firm's research, competitions, and innovation initiatives where applicable.
Qualifications
B.Arch / M.Arch
Required Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture.
- 37 years of professional experience, with demonstrated exposure to computational or parametric design in architectural projects.
- Strong architectural design sensibility, with the ability to balance creativity, performance, and buildability.
- Proficiency in Rhino and Grasshopper; familiarity with scripting/programming is essential.
- Experience working in a design studio environment (not purely academic or research-based).
