Basic Functions:
The responsibilities of the Deputy Engineering Manager will be to lead a team of engineers, participate as a member of the division's leadership team in driving sustainable, profitable results, and recruit, select and develop the talent needed to sustain and grow. This individual should be a creative, forward-thinking, process-minded, effective communicator to join our team. Additionally, the Deputy Engineering Manager's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
· Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers supporting both pre-sale and post-sale engineering work; set clear performance expectations and provide regular feedback, mentoring, and career development planning.
· Drive execution of the team's short-term operating plan, including delivery commitments, staffing alignment, training plans, and productivity targets.
· Allocate work effectively across the team based on complexity, capability, and deadlines; ensure appropriate technical oversight and review.
· Participate in interviewing, onboarding, performance reviews, recognition, and corrective actions.
· Oversee preparation of engineering inputs for bids/proposals (e.g., design assumptions, load cases, modeling approach, preliminary sizing/optimization, risk/clarification identification).
· Ensure consistent application of customer specifications and internal engineering practices.
Partner with estimating/sales counterparts to improve bid responsiveness, accuracy, and engineering risk identification.
· Manage delivery of engineering packages (e.g., pole models, connection checks, calculations, design clarifications).
· Coordinate with U.S. engineering to implement practical engineering solutions.
· Implement and maintain QA processes (peer review, checklists, calculation packages, revision control) to reduce defects and rework.
· Modify/improve processes, systems, or templates to enhance departmental performance
· Communicate status, risks, and corrective actions clearly; drive closure on action items and prevent recurrence through root-cause fixes.
· Lead structured problem solving for difficult to moderately complex technical issues
· Collaborate and communicate effectively with local and international teammates
· Managing tasks in a fast-paced environment
· Work overtime when needed to meet project goals
Minimum Qualifications:
· Able to communicate in English
· B.Tech or B.E. in Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering
· Either 7+ years structural/mechanical engineering experience or 2+ years dedicated leadership experience as a manager
Preferred Qualifications:
· M.Tech in engineering or business
· Registered Chartered or Professional Engineer
· 2+ years experience with the design of tubular steel transmission and distribution structures
· Familiarity with ASCE 48, PLS-Pole, and/or Autodesk Inventor
· Formal leadership training, management certifications, or supervisory experience in an engineering environment
· Public speaking experience
