Job Description for Assistant Manager / Deputy Manager Commercial / Customs

Key Responsibilities:

  • GST Compliance: Handling GST returns, ITC reconciliation, RCM, and ensuring accurate GST application on import/export transactions.
  • Customs Management: Ensure 100% compliance with Customs Act, Tariff schedules, and CBIC notifications. Coordinating with Custom House Agents (CHA) for clearance, determining correct HS classification, and managing duty drawbacks/bond management.
  • Litigation Management: End-to-end management of custom disputes, including replying to Show Cause Notices (SCN), demand letters, and managing appeals before tribunals or courts.
  • Strategic Advisory: Develop and execute legal strategies to minimize risks in customs classification, valuation, ITC availement and duty payments. Staying updated on Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) and customs tariffs to optimize logistics costs and compliance.
  • Regulatory Liaison: Coordinate with GST authorities , DGFT authorities, Customs officials, and CHAs (Customs House Agents).
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain a centralized MIS (Management Information System) for all Indirect taxation related litigation, including tracking case status, hearings, and contingent liabilities.
  • Compliance & Audits: Ensure compliance with customs regulations, Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), and Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in law, Chartered Accountant or Cost Accountant. 10+ years of hands-on experience in GST Compliance, Customs compliance, litigation, or legal support.
  • Knowledge: Expertise in GST Act, HS codes, tariff classification, Duty Drawback, valuation and handling DRI Investigation.
  • Skills: Strong drafting skills, legal research, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of GST Act, Customs Act, FTP, DGFT policies, and proficiency in ERP systems (SAP/Oracle) and MS office.
  • Expertise in Special Economic Zone (SEZ) regulations.
