Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Deputy General Manager based in Chennai. The Deputy General Manager will oversee daily operations, lead cross-functional teams, and ensure the implementation of company goals and policies. Responsibilities include managing production activities, improving process efficiency, ensuring quality standards, and maintaining compliance. The role also involves coordinating with clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders to drive business growth and operational excellence.

Experience in quality control, compliance, and standards related to leather manufacturing

Strong communication, negotiation, and client relationship management abilities

Proficiency in business analytics and problem-solving

Understanding of the leather manufacturing industry and market trends

Relevant professional experience in management, manufacturing, or related fields

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Management

  • Lead daily production activities for leather garment manufacturing units.
  • Develop production plans, manage work allocation, and ensure target output.
  • Monitor line efficiency, SAM, WIP flow, and bottlenecks.
  • Coordinate with Pattern Master, Cutting, Clicking, Stitching, and Finishing teams.

2. Quality Assurance & Control

  • Ensure adherence to international quality standards (EU, Japan, US).
  • Oversee inline inspections, final QC, and AQL compliance.
  • Implement corrective actions for defects in stitching, leather selection, finishing, and accessories.

3. Leather & Material Handling

  • Inspect incoming hides/skins, trims, and accessories.
  • Approve leather quality, thickness, grain, finishing, and shade variations.
  • Work closely with tanneries and suppliers for consistency in quality.

4. Team Leadership

  • Manage a team of supervisors, line in-charges, technicians, and QC staff.
  • Conduct skill assessments and identify training needs for workforce.
  • Improve team productivity, reduce rework/rejection rates.

5. Vendor & Client Coordination

  • Coordinate with merchandisers for sampling, approvals, and buyer comments.
  • Collaborate with vendors on material sourcing, pricing, and lead times.
  • Participate in buyer visits, audits, and compliance inspections.

6. Costing & Efficiency

  • Work with management on product costing, labour costing, and resource optimization.
  • Reduce wastage of leather, thread, trims, and consumables.
  • Improve factory throughput and minimize overtime without compromising quality.

7. Compliance & Systems

  • Ensure adherence to workplace safety, social compliance, and audit requirements.
  • Implement SOPs, MIS reporting, ERP tracking, and production dashboards.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 1015 years of experience in leather garment manufacturing, preferably in exports.
  • Strong technical knowledge of leather types (nappa, suede, nubuck, sheep, cow), garment construction, and finishing techniques.
  • Proven ability to manage large teams (200400 workers).
  • Expertise in production planning, quality control, and process engineering.
  • Experience working with international brands and following buyer standards.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight delivery timelines.
