Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Fleet Operations & Optimization

  • Lead the management of a pan-India fleet (owned and/or leased), ensuring vehicle availability, utilization, and reliability.
  • Monitor and improve fleet KPIs: uptime, fuel efficiency, cost per km, asset utilization, and maintenance cycles.
  • Implement route planning, vehicle tracking, and scheduling tools for optimized operations.

Maintenance & Compliance

  • Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance schedules and ensure minimal downtime.
  • Ensure all vehicles comply with RTO norms, road safety standards, insurance, permits, and fitness certifications.
  • Implement fleet management systems (FMS/Telematics) for real-time tracking and diagnostics.

Cost Control & Vendor Management

  • Manage fleet budgeting, leasing models, and cost optimization initiatives (fuel, repairs, tolls, insurance).
  • Lead negotiations and relationships with vendors for vehicle procurement, leasing, maintenance, and fuel partnerships.
  • Drive cost-reduction programs without compromising safety or performance.

Team & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Lead and mentor regional fleet managers, mechanics, and operational support teams.
  • Collaborate with logistics, operations, procurement, and compliance departments to align fleet performance with business needs.
  • Ensure effective training programs for drivers and operations staff on safety, efficiency, and vehicle handling.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • 10–15 years of experience in fleet operations, with at least 3–5 years in a national or regional leadership role.
  • In-depth understanding of vehicle lifecycle management, fuel management, leasing vs ownership models.
  • Strong command over compliance requirements under Motor Vehicles Act, transport regulations, and logistics safety norms.
  • Familiarity with fleet management software, GPS tracking tools, and logistics automation platforms.
