Job Summary
The Deputy Engineer - Electrical Power Distribution is responsible for the planning, operation, maintenance, and supervision of electrical power distribution systems to ensure safe, reliable, and uninterrupted supply. The role involves field supervision, fault analysis, system improvement, compliance with safety standards, and coordination with maintenance teams and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Operational
- Oversee operation and maintenance of 132kV / 33 kV substations, feeders, transformers, LT/HT networks
- Monitor load flows, voltage levels, and system losses implement corrective actions
- Analyze and attend power outages, breakdowns, and faults, ensuring minimum downtime
- Coordinate preventive and breakdown maintenance activities
- Ensure timely execution of new connections, network extensions, and system upgrades
- Implement energy loss reduction and reliability improvement initiatives
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to electrical safety standards, statutory regulations, and SOPs
- Conduct safety audits, toolbox talks, and permit-to-work systems
- Investigate electrical accidents and prepare reports with corrective actions
Project & Execution Support
- Assist in the estimation, execution, and commissioning of electrical works
- Supervise contractors and vendors to ensure quality and timely completion
- Verify technical drawings, material specifications, and work execution
Team & Administration
- Supervise technicians and contract staff
- Maintain operational logs, maintenance records, and statutory documentation
- Prepare reports on system performance, outages, losses, and improvements
- Coordinate with other departments, regulatory bodies, and consumers when required
Qualifications
Education
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering (from a recognised institution)
Experience
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in electrical power distribution, utilities, or large industrial systems
- Experience in DISCOMs, utilities, or EPC projects is preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of power distribution systems and protection schemes
- Familiarity with IS standards, IE Rules, CEA regulations
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and single-line diagrams
- Hands-on experience with fault finding and troubleshooting
- Leadership, communication, and coordination skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and basic reporting systems
- Willingness to work in field conditions and during emergencies
Working Conditions
- Fieldbased role involving substations, feeder lines, and consumer locations
- Oncall duties during breakdowns or emergency situations
- Exposure to electrical equipment and outdoor environments
