Position Title

Dean – School of Engineering

Reporting To

Vice Chancellor

Role Purpose

The Dean – School of Engineering shall provide strategic, academic, and administrative leadership for the School of Engineering. The role is responsible for driving academic excellence, enhancing student outcomes, promoting research and innovation, strengthening industry partnerships, ensuring regulatory compliance, and advancing the School's reputation as a centre of excellence in engineering education and research.

Key Responsibilities

1. Academic Leadership & Excellence

  • Provide strategic direction for all undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs within the School.
  • Ensure excellence in teaching, learning, curriculum delivery, and academic outcomes.
  • Lead curriculum modernization aligned with emerging technologies, industry requirements, and global engineering trends.
  • Promote Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and experiential learning practices.

2. Faculty Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, mentor, and retain high-quality faculty members and researchers.
  • Establish performance expectations and monitor faculty effectiveness in teaching, research, and institutional contribution.
  • Drive faculty development initiatives, certifications, research capability building, and leadership development.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

3. Student Success & Employability

  • Monitor student academic performance, retention, progression, and graduation outcomes.
  • Strengthen mentoring systems, skill development initiatives, and career readiness programs.
  • Promote student participation in technical competitions, hackathons, innovation challenges, and professional societies.
  • Enhance placement readiness and industry exposure opportunities.

4. Research, Innovation & Technology Development

  • Promote high-impact research, publications, patents, funded projects, and technology development initiatives.
  • Encourage interdisciplinary research and collaboration across Schools and Centres of Excellence.
  • Strengthen innovation, incubation, entrepreneurship, and startup ecosystems within the School.
  • Collaborate with the Dean – Research to enhance research productivity and impact.

5. Industry Engagement & Strategic Partnerships

  • Establish and strengthen relationships with industry, technology companies, research organizations, and professional bodies.
  • Facilitate internships, live projects, industry-sponsored laboratories, consultancy assignments, and collaborative research.
  • Promote industry participation in curriculum development and academic initiatives.
  • Strengthen corporate partnerships to improve employability and innovation outcomes.

6. Accreditation, Rankings & Quality Assurance

  • Lead initiatives related to NBA, NAAC, NIRF, QS, THE, AICTE, and other accreditation and ranking frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance with UGC, AICTE, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor quality indicators and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Drive data-driven academic and operational excellence.

7. Infrastructure & Resource Management

  • Ensure effective utilization of laboratories, workshops, research facilities, equipment, and academic resources.
  • Support planning and development of future infrastructure requirements.
  • Ensure operational efficiency and resource optimization across departments.

8. Admissions & School Growth

  • Support student recruitment, admissions planning, and enrollment growth initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for new programs, emerging specializations, certifications, and interdisciplinary offerings.
  • Develop strategies to attract high-quality students and faculty.

9. Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with University leadership, Directors, Heads of Departments, faculty members, students, alumni, industry partners, and regulatory bodies.
  • Build strong relationships with external stakeholders to strengthen the School's visibility and reputation.
  • Represent the School in academic, research, industry, and professional forums.

10. Strategic Planning & Institutional Development

  • Develop and execute the School's strategic plan aligned with the University's vision and growth objectives.
  • Drive initiatives that enhance academic quality, research excellence, innovation outcomes, industry engagement, and student success.
  • Contribute to institutional policy development and long-term growth initiatives.

Qualification & Experience

  • Ph.D. in Engineering or a related discipline from a recognized University.
  • Minimum 15–20 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic administration within higher education institutions, with a strong preference for teaching experience at premier institutes such as IITs, NITs, or equivalent institutions of national importance.
  • Demonstrated experience in academic leadership, faculty management, research promotion, accreditation, and institutional development.
  • Strong record of research publications, funded projects, patents, industry collaborations, and scholarly contributions.
  • Experience in leading engineering programs, departments, schools, or academic units will be preferred.
