Job Description for SME in Tools development
We are seeking a Database Tools Subject Matter Expert (SME) with in-depth knowledge of Database
tools and its internals, and extensive hands-on experience with enterprise-level Database
implementations and deployment of tools. The ideal candidate will provide expert guidance, drive
best practices, and contribute to the optimization and scalability of database tools. The SME will be
responsible for developing/enhancing tools for complex database migration, benchmarking and
repair projects, offering strategic insights, and ensuring best practices are followed in all aspects of
database management.
Should be able to provide advanced expertise in database tools including migration, repair,
upgrade and benchmarking.
Provide expert advice on database tool design, and best practices to internal teams and
stakeholders.
Oversee the installation, configuration, upgrading, and maintenance of database tools.
Lead and mentor development and database administration teams in database tools best
practices and advanced features.
Analyse and optimize database tool performance.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex database tool issues.
Develop and enforce database standards, security policies, and compliance measures for
tools.
Create and maintain detailed documentation on database tool configurations, procedures,
and design decisions.
Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline database operations, including backups,
maintenance, migration, and monitoring.
Mentor junior database professionals and provide training on advanced database tool
topics.
Stay current with database tool advancements and incorporate relevant technologies and
methodologies to improve database systems.
Actively participate in database communities and forums for the contribution to the
database ecosystem.
Skills
Proven experience in designing and managing large-scale databases.
5+ years of Experience in software development using C/C++.
Proficiency in SQL and PL/SQL programming.
Strong understanding of database tools for migration, benchmarking and upgrade.
Experience with database monitoring tools (e.g., pgAdmin, Datadog, Nagios)
Knowledge of data security best practices.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience with cloud database platforms (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure Database).
Familiarity with other database technologies (e.g., MySQL, Oracle) and data warehousing
solutions.
Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
Experience with automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, Ansible).
Proficiency with C/C++ and Data structures.
Knowledge of Frontend development for tools.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related
field.
Summary
