Job Description
About the role
We are hiring a Database Engineer for a leading US-based financial services company. You will be the single point of contact for the Postgres database platform and its escalations. You will design, deploy and run databases on AWS RDS and EDB Postgres for availability, performance and recoverability.
Shift and work mode
- US shift, aligned to Pacific Time (approx. 9:30 PM to 6:30 AM IST)
- Full-time, work from office
What you will do
- Install, configure, patch, migrate, maintain and upgrade PostgreSQL, EDB and AWS RDS databases
- Run day-to-day operations for EDB, Postgres Distributed (PGD) and AWS RDS: health checks, task allocation, SOP updates
- Evaluate patch releases and communicate constraints, issues and deployment timelines
- Tune Postgres performance through indexing, partitioning and sharding
- Plan and manage migrations from on-prem to AWS and back
- Configure high availability with Aurora read replicas and Global Database
- Plan capacity and assess performance using Performance Insights and RDS KPIs
- Automate with GitLab CI/CD, Ansible, Terraform, Lambda and Python
What you need
- 8+ years managing Postgres databases (EDB ecosystem), with 5+ years on cloud, preferably AWS
- Hands-on AWS RDS, EDB EPAS and Postgres Distributed in production
- AWS security policy, user authentication and IAM for databases
- PostgreSQL on Linux (RHEL) and on Kubernetes in OpenShift
- PgBouncer, PgPool, RDS Proxy and PGD Proxy
- Strong grasp of query optimisation, isolation levels, ACID and BASE
- Jira, GitLab, Ansible and Terraform
- Clear verbal and written communication, with client-facing experience
Good to have
- Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- AWS, CKA or EDB certifications
