Job Summary:We are seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) for a part‑time/contract engagement to support a cloud‑based IoT platform. The role involves designing scalable database architectures, optimizing high‑volume workloads, ensuring reliability, and supporting production operations for microservices‑based, multi‑tenant applications. The ideal candidate has hands‑on expertise with PostgreSQL, strong performance tuning skills, and experience working in cloud environments (AWS/Azure).

Key Responsibilities:

• Database Design & Architecture
  
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas for IoT telemetry, BOS transactional data, and multi‑tenant applications.
  
• Define and implement data partitioning strategies for time‑series and high‑volume data.
  
• Support data modeling aligned with microservices architecture.
  
• Performance & Optimization
  
• Analyze and tune slow queries using indexing, query optimization, and PostgreSQL performance tools.
  
• Optimize database for high write throughput in IoT ingestion environments.
  
• Improve latency, throughput, and handle large-scale datasets efficiently.
  
• Define strategies for archiving and data retention.
  
• Cloud & Scalability
  
• Support database deployment on AWS/Azure.
  
• Configure replication, high availability (HA), failover strategies, and scaling solutions.
  
• Operations & Reliability
  
• Implement and manage backup and recovery strategies.
  
• Ensure database security, including roles, access controls, and encryption.
  
• Monitor database health and troubleshoot production issues.
  
• Perform root cause analysis during incident resolution.
  
• Collaboration
  
• Work closely with Cloud Architects, Microservices teams, and DevOps engineers.
  
• Guide developers on best practices for schema design and query development.
  
• Review database changes and ensure compliance with performance and security standards.
  
  

Required Skills and Qualification

• 6–10 years of hands‑on experience in PostgreSQL database administration.
  
• Experience supporting production-grade systems in complex, high-volume environments.
  
• Strong communication and active listening skills for stakeholder interaction.
  
• Advanced PostgreSQL expertise including:
  
• Indexing, partitioning, vacuuming
  
• Query tuning using EXPLAIN / ANALYZE
  
• Experience with:
  
• High-volume transactional systems
  
• Time-series / IoT datasets (preferred)
  
• Knowledge of:
  
• Replication (streaming/logical)
  
• Backup & recovery tools (pg_dump, WAL, etc.)
  
• Familiarity with cloud-managed DB services such as AWS RDS, Aurora, Azure Database for PostgreSQL.
  
  

• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS architecture.
  
  
• Exposure to microservices-based systems and distributed architectures.
  
• Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, pgAdmin, etc.
  
• Basic scripting in Bash or Python for automation.
  
• Experience with performance benchmarking and database observability tools.
